Marjorie Arietta Newberry
Homespun World Builder

Margie often comes across as a little quiet, a little withdrawn, not quite exactly here all the time. She walks through the woods and builds a world within in her imagination. She takes that feeling and tries to imbue it into the other aspects of her life. She embroiders details along her cuffs and collars, carefully paints whimsical designs along nearly every possession, finds small ways to add her own touch wherever she can. She tries to make this world a little more hers and one others can enter as well.

Girl Meets World

With parents who both sheltered Marjorie and greatly indulged, even encouraged, her more whimsical, solitary nature, Margey finds herself at sort of distance from other people, especially those her age and younger. It isn't that she's not socialized to some degree, there was an early attempt at homeschooling, but by 3rd grade she was attending public school. She even had friends, though none of them were anything very deep.

But the words she crafts for herself is so much better. So much of what her friends loved was plastic, poorly made, shallow: objects destined toward the garbage, if not next week, then next year. And they're loud and jarring and the world they occupy, the perspectives they hold just aren't something she can value. She doesn't even try. Why bother seeing things from someone else's perspective when it's so obviously going to be unpleasant?

High school is over, though. And now Margie finds herself getting ready for college, moving into shared housing, and entering a world that won't be nearly as indulgent and sheltered as the one she grew up in.

No Haystacks Here

Margie never seems to lose her pins and needles. Should they get dropped or knocked onto the floor, they always land within clear sight and easy reach.

ANYTHING ELSE?

She is 18.

Her mother is woodworker, her father is a chef. From a young age, her parents have always upheld the idea of making things yourself whenever possible.

She'll be attending Rider-Waite in the fall, full-time, but has moved into her shared housing in town and begun summer classes as sort of a "soft" start into a fairly large change. Her dream is to find ways to bring the world she makes for herself and be able to share it with others, in the future this might have some hiccups because...

...she's never owned a cellphone, television, computer, or video game console. They weren't allowed in the house growing up. She isn't tech illiterate, though, modern schools wouldn't really allow for that, and of course she's had experiences with each when visiting friends. However, Margie agrees with her parents that they're unnecessary distractions for her at home and is likely to continue avoiding them unless something either convinces her, or something gets its hooks into her.

She has a twin brother. He is her utter opposite and headed to California the day after graduation. He is probably chugging Mountain Dew and playing Call of Duty while sexting five girls right this very moment. There is affection between them, even if it's accompanied by total bafflement.
