DETAILED DRIFTER
Detail orientated and hands-on, Joey is a DIY type to her core. Her hands are work-worn and calloused, peppered with small scars from a life spent doing and making things happen. She's always had a hard time committing to anything that isn't ink: hair color, people, decor, places. Jo is looking for something, a feeling, a validation, and though she's stayed in Ashdown longer than anywhere in her life, she's still waiting for a reason not to drift.
I CAN MAKE ALL THE TABLES TURN
She wants somewhere to call home, something to believe in, but it's probably not you. Jo's problem is that she has an idea of how things should be, what she wants, but she's jaded enough to believe they're just the desires of a childish heart and not something meant for her...until she allows herself to hope. A small, flickering thing that is too quickly and easily snuffed out.
Joey projects what could be on others, which puts a lot of expectation on them, whether they know it or not. A potential teacher, a potential flame, an idea or romantic notion made manifest and then quickly torn down. She has a fear of being hurt, of being let down and left behind, so deeply rooted that she'll often cut ties, cut courtesy, before it can be done to her. If she's in control, then there's no damage done, because it was expected and because she was right all along. This is how it's meant to be. This is okay. (It's totally not okay.)
Her non-committal ways have lost her jobs, friendships, opportunities. She's aware of it, and try as she might to change it, a situation comes up and she runs because it's easier to pick up and move apartments and dye her hair a different color than it is to address what she lacks. Jo has 99 problems and depending on others is all of them.
