Ninfia is an energetic teen, bursting with excitement and bouncing off the walls! They're desperate for attention and have no concept of privacy and often invade other people's business for their own convenience. They're an adventurous, lithe teen always climbing trees and buildings and getting into trouble due to minimal supervision, and stubborn and self-centered to boot. But they're always trying to keep their head up and keep an upbeat attitude and make friends, despite that!
SQUAWK FOR ATTENTION
The first and foremost priority for Ninfia is getting attention. Their Lito, although a kind and doting grandfather, is a single old man, who can't possibly keep up with the energetic and emotional demands of his grandchild. They're often left alone with just their Abuelito's flock of cockatiels while he works, so they've learned to make them their company and often talks to them. But still, it doesn't sate their loneliness, and the feeling of isolation. So, Ninfia has learned to find other ways to get the attention they so crave, from annoying adults outside, bothering their peers, and exploring all the shops in Ashdown, even ones they aren't supposed to be in! Any attention is good attention, after all. Even so, they tend to be seen as an annoying kid, or a weird bird child, and makes it difficult for them to make friends, which is honestly the kind of attention they were really looking for in the first place! This sometimes leads to Ninfia trying too hard to gain others' approval, being overly friendly and touchy-feely in an effort to be accepted.
PORTABLE PERCH
Ninfia's power causes birds to be much more trusting around them! They seem to always land right on their body, and even stay there longer than what would be considered normal for a wild bird. It's stronger around birds that Ninfia already knows, like their pet and their Lito's birds, but even angry outside birds will land on them calmly as if they were a perch.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Ninfia is a 16 year old Mexican teen, with their grandfather being a first-generation Mexican immigrant who speaks only Spanish. They live with their Abuelito and his impressive flock of cockatiels. Their mom had them at a young age and their father is a deadbeat they've never known. Their mother works overseas often, working hard to support her child and father, but struggles to connect to the child she didn't raise and feels more like an older sister than a mother to them. And Ninfia, in turn, has trouble feeling like they even have a mother, feeling more connected to their Lito and his birds.
They've struggled with their gender for a while, and currently identifies as an agender girl, and prefers generally prefers they/them pronouns, though they don't mind she/her from close friends. They are male-bodied, and their grandfather doesn't quite understand it and often makes mistakes, but supports his grandchild in whatever makes them happiest.
Plátano is their very own cockatiel their Abuelito bought them when they turned ten. They are an inseparable pair, and they're often seen wandering around outside together, with Plátano on a bird harness.
