Eulalia had left the Fire territory for the time being, wanting to explore the lands a bit more and see what she could discover. She had yet to find a story to record to memory for the library back home and was finding herself growing a bit impatient to show her worth to the rest of the Chroniclers and Stillwater. More for her own peace of mind than anything else. Far as she knew, she was the only one who had anything to say on the matter. Stories couldn't be rushed, after all. They had to be found naturally. The B'alam population in the world may just still be rather low.
It was getting a bit on the late side and tiredness was finally starting to overcome her, when the Fire nantlil saw something bright in the distance. Though she couldn't be sure on what it was, she would have confidently bet on anyone near her it was a B'alam. Either that or one of the little critters some befriended. Only one way to find out!
Keeping to bushes in an attempt to hide her own bright fur, Eulalia crept closer, close enough to see it was indeed a B'alam. And a young one at that. He looked scared. And alone. She knew it was her job to watch and not intervene, but wouldn't this be a special case? One couldn't simply stand by and allow a youngster to survive in the wilderness on their own. And even if it wasn't allowed, who would ever know? There were only a handful of Chorniclers. The chances of being spotted were small.
But before she could move an inch, another figure came into view, this one darker and larger. Good. Perhaps he would help the cub and Eulalia wouldn't have to break any vows on her very first watch. She remained silent in her bush until they took flight and went beyond an area she could not pass. Taking a few moments to commit the experience to memory, the Chronicler continued on her way. This time to find somewhere to sleep.

The sniffling of the small cub continued. Though slowly his tears began to stop falling at Cain's words. Yes, he would be fine, that is what he felt. He could trust Cain. It was Cain's actions that convinced the small one that he was quite gentle just like Uncle Zeke and his mother. But the scars of the wounds the other possessed reminded him of father. Strong and proud. This adult must have been in many battles protecting small ones like himself. That is what Kalani truly believed.
Though the thought of his family nearly caused him to start his bawling again. Yet his mind drifted to his sister, no he had to be brave. Just like before, just like his siblings. He could do this, he knew he could. No more crying, if he wanted to get back he had to stop crying. He couldn't burden Cain anymore then he had been. He sniffed a bit more, but slowly his tears stopped, just as Kalani willed them to.
Kalani nodded. Yes, sleep he would need that. At least he could try. "I-" the soft whisper came from his maw, but he cut himself off. No more of that, no more doubting no more being afraid, he could do this. The cub's tail curled around him as he settled back down. "Good night" He whispered.
He was tired, the long night had trickled into the day, and with all the excitement the small cub had he was exhausted both physically and mentally. The small one's teal orbs slowly slipped closed, unable to keep them open any longer. Soon he was fast asleep, curled up close to Cain.
