"Hey, woah, hands off!" Etsali stumbled, shaking off the hand that had grabbed at her foot, and made one last leap to the stairway inbetween the seating areas. One hand closing around the railing there, she looked back. All eyes were on her now, trolls talking over each other about what was happening and standing for a better view as if this was all part of the show. Her free hand lifted to check the belt was still secure and there was a flash of a camera as her eyes found her pursuer, still struggling through the crowd.
Clever man. No one was going to just let her slip through, not now that they all knew what she was carrying. For now, the confusion might be slowing him up a bit as well, but it was definitely all going to play to his favor in the end. He'd probably even have backup now, from whoever in the audience felt daring enough to join in. Unless she convinced them that they didn't need to. A grin spread across her face again, wide and sharp, all excitement and challenge.
"That's right," she said, and then she lifted her chin defiantly and said it again louder, so everyone could hear. All part of the show. "I said that's right! I've got the Champ's belt!" She pointed back to herself with a thumb dramatically and then began to step down the stairs without taking her eyes off the tealblood. "And the only one who could stop me," she sing-songed, soaking in the attention, "can't even keep up!"
And then she was running again, unable to contain a laugh. Maybe it had been a stupid, risky move, but worth it. "Come on, already!"

Keeper could say anything she wanted about what a thief ought to be, could give all the lectures in the world about staying in the shadows, but deep down Etsali had always wanted this. The attention, the shouts, the acknowledgement of what she could do. What good was there in being the greatest thief in Alternia if no one knew? Every echoed shout of 'THIEF' was another shot of giddy adrenaline to her heart, and after running so long that was already beating double time. It might have been approaching painful if she hadn't been too hyped up to notice.
Her pursuer was closer than ever, thanks to that last tactic of hers, and even knowing that capture likely meant death did nothing to wipe the grin off her face. She couldn't have subdued it if she'd tried right now, and that was something she'd been working on for forever. She couldn't even resist the urge to glance back at him one more time.
"How about it, big guy? Is that the best you can do?"

Etsali let out a peal of laughter at the reply. This one wasn't much of a talker, was he? At least he'd finally caught up, even if technically that was only because she'd had to take a little pause to get the crowd on her side. A beat belatedly, she remembered that that wasn't actually a good thing, but she was so on top of the world right now that even that mental reminder did little to dim her confidence in the situation. A hand streaked down towards the largest pouch on her belt, popping it open and claiming a knife from within.
"Now you're getting somewhere!" The rail of another stairway up through the stands caught her attention just ahead, just as she could feel him a step behind. Without a second's hesitation, she pivoted to hop up a couple of steps, half sure she'd be run over completely if she had stopped in place instead. Her knife whirled up into a steady grip, and as she turned she swept it out in a slash. She didn't think just that would bring him down, not unless she got him in the eyes by some crazy chance, but it'd give him something to think about.

Etsali staggered under the blow, knee hitting the next step up, and the crowd roared just as loudly for her blood as they had his. They knew what they were here for, she guessed. Wincing, she twisted again, but instead of repeating her slash, she let the knife fly. Watching it swish harmlessly past him should have been distressing, but a laugh bubbled up again instead. Of all times to rush a throw.
"Lucky," she teased as she braced herself to prepare for a hop back to her feet. Better to watch how he came at her first instead of immediately going for it again at this point. Easier to dodge something she could see. More likely to find an out when she could see a pursuer eye to eye. Her mind ticked through her gambits so far in search of something else she could add on, some little bit more of an advantage.
It happened very abruptly as she stared up at Ganyma. The confident grin that had refused to fade gave way, for just a moment, to confusion. Her eyes flickered away from his to the crowd, then back, her eyebrows lifted expectantly. Say something, she mouthed before pulling her grin back up to standard.

ganyma chucklesTime stood still as Ganyma recovered. The event was a play-by-play, a dance. It seemed somehow orchestrated, even as organic and lively and… Wholly real as it was. But the line was blurred for the wrestler, now, and when Etsali looked from the crowd to him he gasped. It clicked. Holy crap.
This was a show. Before he had time to overthink it, Ganyma straightened up and slung his arms out – up, and to the sides. “How dare you think you can come here and steal Jaawhn Sheena’s Championship Belt!” Ganyma roared, to thunderous cheers and applause. The chants for Sheena were overwhelming, but Ganyma was fine playing second fiddle – or hell, even losing – to this obvious villain. It would advance the plot. It would advance his plot. He was shaking with excitement, which came across as unadulterated rage in his speech. “I’ll stop you, petty thief! Criminal!” Uhhh… “Fiend!” Okay, there we go. Ganyma rushed forward, this time with his hands outstretched – pushblades away. No stabbing here, just a good old fashioned grapple. Less effective, perhaps, but more dramatic and extremely cool. That was the goal now.

HP: 8/20 Damage: 2
"Who do you think you are to stop me?" She called back, egging him on to keep talking. Now that he was wrapped up in the game, Etsali felt a surge of relief and even, maybe a bit oddly, fondness for her opponent. Maybe there was something to working the coliseum, if watching the enemy show off right back was this satisfying. Maybe in another world, she might have thought about trying to spin this into a recruitment for herself. But in this one, well, she'd take the sight of his blades retracting and the belt on her back as reward enough.
She was no wrestler, after all, and while his clear attempt at a grapple was an improvement over the alternative, it was also another losing battle for her. She held position instead of rising immediately to face off against him, then lashed out with both feet in a kick instead to knock him back off balance as much as possible. The endgame here was escape, and she could hear it calling almost as loud as the crowd around them.
