(Cain total word count: 1084)

It would be night once again, perhaps in a couple more hours. The birds were still out and the air seemed to carry 'life' upon it. Cain was still figuring out the signs of the sun's departing. So far he had managed to figure out that birds' song tapers off after a grand finally. And that air seemed to "thin" and cool after the sun had gone down. The echo of a bug's chirping carried much further in the night's cover than the noisy chorus of the day. Morning Star could always tell him when the sun was setting, however, Cain felt that he needed to show he could function independently. He needn't show he was dependent on his master's spoken word to carry out his master's will.

Cain could feel the salty caress of a swift wind running past his ears. He could hear the birds cackling at one another above. During the day he was more alert of sounds around him. Wind and a constant feel of sand being tossed toward his fur and ears were normal for this area. At night he could see the endless white sands and dunes constantly changing by the waters coming in and out. Judging by the salty water in his nose, the tide was coming in. The wind sent salty spray their way on occasional bursts. That and there was a lack of the smell of rotting fish and crab that came from when the waters were low. The birds around here loved the low tide as it was their time to feast. They did not seem as in a hurry to grab a meal, more like arguing amongst themselves for some pointless reason.

Though the world was darkened for him, he knew it pressed on by the constant clamor from everything around. It was a nuscence at times, however, Cain had learned to focus only on noises that were important. Another work in progress. His wings shifted a bit before he turned his head toward Morning Star, good eye shut tight still.

"Can you see it from here, my lord?" Cain inquired after a moment's thought. "Shall I fly out there tonight to be sure it is safe for your arrival?"

Morning star's gaze looked up to the sky, to find a familiar sight. One that he found always comfort in, ever since he saw and it's light pierced his blinded gaze. It was that of a single star that showed it's self in the showed of the approaching night. The first light of all the stars in the night sky, the only one he could clearly see as it shown it's self most brightly at twilight.

The first star of the night, and the last to leave in the morning. The Morning Star...

Blinking, Morning Star's ears turned to the sound of Cain's rough voice. His head pulled it's self to look over at the dark and pink B'alam. His eyes widened slightly to try and see the most of the fading light around him. It was becoming that time again, taking in a slow breath Morning Star felt the glow of his scales warming his body as they started to softly glow what they had gained by the day's sunlight rays.

It was almost Night, his sight would be gone, but Cain's would awaken. His eyes and knight of the evening skies.

White tail shifted in the sands, as his head turned back to the faint dot seen from the shore.

"Faintly, now." Morning Star spoke, "It is there," The light b'alam reassured the dark beside him. Though he did know that it wasn't needed. Cain, had trusted his words after all he hadn't lead him astray. Tail shifted once more in the sand....

The Light B'alam nodded as the tahtil released a soft breath, knowing that such a gesture would not be seen by Cain at the moment.

"Yes, and soon." Morning Star easily answered, his head raised once more to take in the scent of the salt of the ocean. It was a smell he had a feeling that he would have to get use too.

"Make sure the territory is secure, remove any 'obstacles' that might hinder us if it is suitable." Morning Star added, and paused thoughtfully.

"Be sure to spare any Patches, they can be worked." Morning Star spoke, though he did know that Cain did know already of such rules...

He was such a good Needle...

"I am trusting you to handle this flawlessly Cain." The leader spoke, turning his head his tone took a more darker one as he looked to his Right paw. Teal eyes remained on the b'alam even though his sight faded with the coming night fall.

There was no more room for one to leave any threads that might hinder them once more....

Cain's ears bounced once to Morning Star's voice. He remained alert to any sound that might become a threat, but his focus moved greatly to what was being said. Of course he knew his tasks and that they should be carried out flawlessly. Every inch of Cain's frame was as still as a stone while he received his instructions for the night. He did not know how long it would be before he would return, if sun's light would return before he could make it back, or if there would be time to spare.

"It will be-" Cain started to respond when the sound of birds and a heavy animal broke through even his rough voice.

Immediately his ears shot toward the origin of the sound, which was followed by a crack and a crash. Large wings flared out and while his entire frame turned to face the 'threat'. All of his claws unshiethed while his fangs revealed themselves behind his pulled lips. Even in the blindness of the day he was ready to defend his lord.

However...

The sounds of the birds and the large animal were quick to retreat back into the forest. The large white birds had picked a fight with some lump of a furry animal, obviously not another b'alam, and continued to pursue it back into the woods. Whatever the thing was had disturbed the beloved bird's nest which was nestled safely, or was, in the hollow of a rather large log. The cracking was the log falling back and away from the ground it had formally been sitting in. Vines gripped at the downed log as they were nearly tugged from their tree in the scuffle.

When the sudden sounds begun to fade further into the forest Cain's ears bounced. His posture remained, but his lips relaxed and wings folded back against his sides.

"The animals are odd in these parts..." Cain commented as soon as he was sure the sounds were vanishing.

He was slightly curious as to what happened, however, decided there was no need to inquire. If it was important than Morning Star would tell him in due time.

Morning Star's ear quickly flicked back to the disturbance that happened in the forest behind them. Turning himself, the Light B'alam's eyes widen as the large creature and birds back behind the sanctuary of the trees. Morning Star's fur stood slightly on end as just as Cain he was startled into action. His claws unshiefed themselves, and it was then he realized that he too was standing. Tail shot out behind him and seemed to grow twice it's size. A breath released from Morning Star, and his tail whipped behind him.

There was no danger, just a slight disruption. Ears twisted and turned to hear Cain's words. The creatures where really strange....

"Indeed." The Leader spoke lowering his head, with a careful step of his white paw Morning Star started toward the hanging part of the tree. Teal eyes rested themselves on the the fallen bark.

Strange. Yet, full of potential.

Talk about Convenient.

Morning Star, had been wondering how he was going to get over to the island, let along have others with out powerful wings as well. Morning Star had just figured something would come along in time...

Well, he wasn't wrong.

His spotless tail twitched and raised, turning himself. Morning Star released a sigh, and turned back to his loyal servant. Cain.

"It seems as if I have been granted a means to make it to the island." The Tahtil stated with a smile, his eye sight was fading, there was no way that he was going to be able to work on this new 'project'.

Turning himself, Morning Star moved himself back over to the edge of the ocean. Taking in a slow breath, he knew he needed to prepare himself for the dark, but that would have to wait till Cain left. There was no need to harm his Needle's eyes anymore. Perhaps in time he would be able to think of something to help combat the sun's rays to Cain's and Faer's eyes. Like something that would allow them to see in the light with out problem. It was better then them walking around blind.

Like he had to in the dark....

Cain followed the sounds of Morning Star's footprints to guide him to this new discovery. Whatever it was had to be great in its own way if it earned some form of praise. His nostrils flared. The smell of salted bark filled his olfactory upon the deep inhale.

Oh? Wood was it? Covered in the fresh scent greens. He dared crack his good eye to see what was before them. The vines and shape of the log were just barely visible through the bright blur. Promptly he closed his good eye again. It was still too bright for him to see anything too clearly without a headache.

Perhaps he could pull him back to the island? In the dark? It would be hard for him without sight but he could manage. Than again, it would be a terrible thing if there were dangers on the island to attack a blind light-walker.

"I will be back before the sun rises again... Do you see anything that I may take flight from , my lord? So that I may go as soon as my good eye are not plagued."

His tail flicked and ears strained to listen for the answer.

"Take care to not strain your eyes, Cain." Morning Star spoke, noticing the wince of him taking a peak at the new discrovery. It was something that he would see well enough, soon enough.

They would have to take the jounry in the dark, Morning Star wouldn't risk such a b'alam like Cain, to make him foolishly fly in the day with out sight.

"Vary Good." Morning Star spoke, nodding to Cain knowing he need more then just a gesture. A smile slipped across the B'alam's maw, Cain did do such a good job. All in his loyalty, he was doing well to make up for letting those two Earth things...live, as well as let Nikita escape...

"Keep the course, Cain you are doing well to redeem yourself." The leader spoke softly, knowing that such a loyal subject did need encouragement every now and then. They did need to know they where doing a good job, and remaining in favor.

"Yes, there is a dune to your left." The Light B'alam answer, releasing a slow breath Morning Star rested his hunches in the sand once more. His White tail shifted and curled around his body once more.

Teal eyes rested himself on the fading sight of the island across the sea.

Soon.

It would would be soon that they could start anew. If everything worked out on this island.

"Remember, Cain. It needs to be suitable for all woven traits, a fresh water source..." Morning Star reiterated,

"It must be perfect."

It had to be perfect...and Cain knew what to look for. They had talked over such a subject for a while now...

Cain drew in a deep breath when Morning Star said he was doing well to redeem himself for his past crimes. He allowed Riot and Nikita to escape, he had been mauled by three freshly ascended Magi and returned wounded and near death. By all means, his life should have been forfeit. However, Morning Star did believe there was some use for him and thus he was around.

"Thank you my lord... I will give my life should that mean redeeming my failures. My life is already in your hands, and should you find it necessary to end it, it would be in honor to you." Cain lowered his head in a respectful bow.

"I will return as soon as possible."

And with the sun's light vanishing from the sky, Cain was able to take off to the sky and head toward the island. He was determined to make amends. This, he would not let his lord down.
