It was an absolutely rare day for Gundisalv to take time off for himself from patrolling, training his current Braves and learning continously from his Magus and the Grand Weaver.
The day was incredible for a break. A wide baby blue sky with cheerful, fluffy white clouds that looked like cozy pillows and without a single sign of storms or darkening clouds. Sun shined all around and hugged everything within its warming touch. The great rays of light glittered over the glorious lake that was the heart and soul of the Water tribe. It was the source of everlasting life, changable from serenity to fierceness.
With the smooth, fresh breeze kicked up from the water to gently caress the extremely tall grass at the edge of the lake where Gundisalv made his home. The Brave leader rested in comfortable silence with only the whispering wind as his soothing lullaby and bringing on the amazing enjoyment of solitude.
Gundisalv shifted onto his side, stretching out the tensed muscles into relaxation with his head resting wonderfully on his crossed paws and his tail curled up against him all the while forgetting for just this moment that there was an outside world.
Sighing deeply, the male was able to sleep without a worry that something would go wrong. After all he had the most dedicated group of Braves who took their calling seriously and enjoyed being apart of something that was meaningful on a multitude of levels. Gundisalv was absolutely proud of them and though he didn't show it he was happy that he had them. Each one were special in his eyes with unique abilities that would only become better as time went on. Even the progress of the Brave manual was coming together slowly as the thoughts and instinctive knowledge of what he expected and want from his Brave came to him little by little. It was a long process for sure but already he finished the Brave specializations. They were good ones that would be useful to the tribe and the outside, not just for the army of Braves.
Yes slowly but surely things of that nature were coming together along with his own skills and training. Every day was something new to Gundisalv. He didn't want to stop training or working but this time around, for today only of course, Gundisalv wanted a break. It was a break he granted to everyone as well, not just for himself. That's how much he cared about his Braves.
Yes he cared very much for- What was that sound? Thought Gundisalv as his train of thought was interrupted by it. Ears flickering as something roused him, the male didn't move as he didn't want to ake any slight noise that would hinder his investigation....from the laying down position of sleep. blop....blop....blop... That was a strange sound. swish....swish, blopblopblopswishswishsloshsloshgaspsloshsloshburbleburbleburblesputtergasp It was an array of sounds coming from the water closest to his little nest that the male snapped his eyes open with a horrific glare and a low growl.
What could possibly be making all this sounds and so close to his home?! Everyone knew not to bother him too much when he was in these areas alone since naturlly he made it very obvious that he liked his space when at home. But now someone was making all that noise! Stretching out his limbs that popped and made those stretching sounds, Gundisalv sat up and moved slowly through the tall grass to see who the trespasser was and ready to shake them down with harsh scoldings.
Poking his head out the male looked around but saw nothing at first. Glaring harshly with blue eyes becoming absolutely cold he bared his teeth in warning just in case and was about to turn away when those sounds came back in a quick rush. This time, Gundisalv did see someone.
In the water.....
A water tribe.........
They seemed to be drowning.......
And it was a female.........................................

This very same day...it was perfect for swimming. At the very least practicing how to swim better. It was something that bothered Nerine greatly that as a water triber with the deep love for the very element that brought them life....She was absolutely terrible at swimming. Since her awakening, Nerine would go to the lake and move about in the swallow end. Each day she would go further and further into the water and swim in that depth until she felt confident with her skills.
Today however was different. With the sky brilliant in it's blue with white clouds lazily moving along the sky's back drop and the sun shining down happily, it seemed to be the very last thing that Nerine saw as she slipped from a slimy rock at the bottom of the area she had been practicing her swimming. It brought her into deeper waters that she was uncomfortable with and couldn't touch the bottom with her paws or the fact that she was far away from any edges of the lake. Gasping out and splashing violently, Nerine tried to call out for help but in her panicked state the female's fear seized the sound of her voice.
Instead there was a series of wild noises coming from her and this despair that no one was going to know that she was drowning and needed the help. Darkness started to gather as she was losing the battle of keeping afloat and her body was becoming tired.
This was....
The end.............
It would have been if there wasn't this sound of splashing from somewhere, kicking out her legs to keep up but it was becoming difficult and this sudden tug from the scruff of her neck. Maybe this is what happened before you died. You imagine things that aren't there and think you are hearing things. Feeling that some sort of invisible force was dragging her out of the water she stopped fighting and closed her eyes, allowing darkness to tease her mind with flashes of something blue and large next to her.
Before she knew it, Nerine was being dragged on something solid. It felt almost like the ground. Squinting her eyes to the sun and turning her head to look at the sudden looming shadow over her, Nerine smiled faintly but didn't realize she had been saved by the leader of the Braves, by the very male who was grumpy and very unapproachable even when he was respectful and rather kind to those around him that did cross his path......
Nerine was saved by Gundisalv.....her hero.
Closing her eyes she turned her head away, panting harshly and trying to regain herself especially the rest of her conscience state through deep breathes to fully be able to grasp what had just happened.

Gundisalv didn't hesitate to jump into the cool water and swam with powerful downward movements with his legs and paws to propel himself toward the drowning b'alam. Every part of his instinct raged and clamored for him to move faster before it was too late. Seeing the drowning figure slow down in their movements, no doubt exhaustion was setting in and the loss of conscienousness was at hand. No...no he would not let someone die in the lake and not while he had breath in his lungs.
The fighting was slowly leaving and just went he thought that the b'alam was going to finally give in to the exhaustion Gundisalv reached them in time to grab a mouth full of fur and clenched his jaws to have a good grip. Tugging the body with him as he turned toward the shore of the lake, the Brave leader used the momentum of his swimming to help get close. Even the helpless victim stopped fighting because it helped to keep them afloat and steady.
Reaching the shore he dragged the weak form and himself to the safety of land, dropped the victim as gently as he could, panting softly from the near heart attack he could have suffered if this....this foolish female had perished in the water. Yes the water was the most respected element that was both soothing and kind as it was dangerous and unforgiving. Even so his duty was to protect and help those in need, no matter the conditions and no matter if it risked his own life. Gundisalv stared down at the slightly smaller form of the female water tribess, hoping that she was alive.
The female moved, turning her head slowly with squinting eyes against the bright sun and smiled. Gundisalv was startled by the faint smile this female gave and wondered if she was in the right mind to focus....then again that was a rather stupid wonderment and simply stared as she turned away, eyes closing and still catching her breath. Gundisalv looked around them to see if anyone else might by chance be around but found himself, and this female, alone.
Sighing the male moved away from the female to shake out the water that weighed down his fur. Stretching out his limbs in the same process, Gundisalv felt much better. Better to go over to where the female was beginning to shiver even when the warmth of the sun was seeping through the fibers of his fur to chase his own chill away.
Gundisalv laid down against the back of the female, looking down to see if she will realize that she was on safe ground and next to the scowling brave leader who saved her life.

Seeing the hopefully look in Nerine's eyes made something in the part of his chest where the beating of his heart simply thumped to the steady rhythm of life moved. It must have been the shock that he, the very grumpy, scary looking and absolutely intense male ever was willing to teach this young female how to swim. It seemed like such a small thing but it meant so much to Nerine and that was quite obvious.
Clearing his throat sharply at the uncomfortable moment, Gundisalv gave a curt nod then looked away to stare off into the distance of the great lake that was beautiful under the slowly descending sun, like ripples of crystals on the surface. He would need to find a time and a naturally the place would be here but another spot where the water was much more swallower. Something easy to start off Nerine.
Yes it could happen after training his recruits and sending them off to their patrol duties. Then he could spend two hours, or as long as necessary each day with Nerine to give her a thorough training of her own in swimming. That sounded like such an excellent plan! With that the Braves leader turned to look at Nerine.
"Starting tomorrow at noon you will report to me here. During the mornings there will be training and delegations of tasks for my Braves but afterwards I will take you to a small spot to instruct you to become a good swimmer. I expect you, however," Here it came the scary leader coming out. "to be here promptly at this location and ready to learn. I expect you to listen and execute my commands until you have mastered each step. Do you understand me Nerine?
Something moved in his mind as he said her name.
It was a nice name after all. Very different and fitting, as calming and soothing as the water when it is absolutely still like a reflecting mirror. Mentally shaking himself from those disturbing thoughts the male scowled at Nerine.
She had said nothing else no doubt still speechless but the female nodded. Good she understood what he said and no doubt will be a good student to his lessons. Gundisalv stood up giving the female a even bigger scowl. "Now if you will excuse me, I must return to my previous task." Which was going back to take that much needed nap. Turning away from Nerine as he hoped to convery his disinterest in further speaking with her, the last thing he heard from Nerine was a silent, soft and warm thank you.
Blast that female it was going to be an enduring time teaching her if all these weird movings in his mind and heart were happening.
