Amarite waded through the water up to his chest, his head held high as he trudged along. There was no real point to what he was doing. He just liked being in the water. The sun glittered off the gem on his forehead and warmed him as he waded. A flash of something silvery under the water caught his eye and he dived instantly, disappearing with a soft plop as the water closed around him. A moment later he re-emerged and padded up the bank with a large fish in his mouth.

He pranced forward out of the water and shook himself off. Water droplets sprayed the area and made his fur look more fluffy at the ends than usual. He was grinning with the fish still in his mouth, happy as can be. "Yes! Lunch!" The fish dropped from his mouth onto the sandy bank and he pawed at it for a moment as it died. His tongue lolled out of his mouth slightly, eyes bright and eager. He took great pleasure in this little catch, although he knew he'd just go look for another fish in a bit.

Keeping the fish in his sight, he began the task of building a little fire; arranging the stones and gathering some twigs to light. Halfway through a few large sea birds came swooping down for the fish that now lay dead in the sun. Amarite snarled and snapped at them, baring his teeth. The birds scattered and he quickly scooped up his prize and headed back to the little campfire he was making. "Raw fish'll do, but this just tastes better," he told himself. There was no one around to hear him talk to himself, anyway. And if there was he'd just laugh at himself anyway.

She'd been up since the sun first kissed the sands and made them sparkle. Ohtli didn't like wasting a moment of soaking in the sun's energy and warmth. She was awake when it was awake and she laid down when it sank into the ocean for the night. The female sat up on the beach, watching the sun inch closer to her paws and then grinned when it glittered off the gems around her front ankles. So pretty. The more she sat in the sun the more content she felt until she was completely warm. The nights were so cold lately...

Either way, once even the tip of her tail was warm she decided to pad down the sands, looking at the water. There had been nothing but the occasional fish and waves rising and falling until she spotted what looked like a white ....well, from the size she would have to say male. Turning her head to see if anyone was with him, she looked back and he was gone!

Was it her imagination?

Withing a few moments his head was above the water and he had a fish caught between his teeth. "Right! Breakfast..." Her stomach rumbled at the mere mention of it and with a sigh, Ohtli figured she should attempt to procure food for herself...

But he could prove more interesting.

"Hello there!" She said even as he snapped at the birds and snarled. Testy wasn't he? She just grinned to herself and let her tail flick to the side. "You should snatch a bird up, that'll teach them!" Or the other birds would try to eat that bird too, vultures that they were.

The fish was just leaving his mouth again as Amarite began to prepare the fire when a voice rang out and he nearly jumped out of his skin. A yelp escaped him and he took a protective stance over his fish. "Whaaaa-- who are you?" He eyed the other B'alam in front of him with a mixture of suspicion and curiosity. The fish lay at his paws. "Did you come for my fish?" As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he narrowed his eyes and picked the fish up in his mouth. "Oo cannah hah ih. Iff mah fish." The words were muffled around the body of the fish, but this didn't seem to deter him any.

His head cocked to the side as he gazed at the female. She seemed to be made much like he was. Fluffy fur, gems at her feet and forehead, and her coloring was exquisite. She reminded him of a carp. He liked carp. Once again the poor fish fell from his mouth, forgotten now as he stepped toward her. "I've never seen another B'alam before," he said. "I'm Amarite. Or Ama, if you like that better."
