This was better, now: not much better, but enough for Ollie to feel it. He struck with more confidence [and maybe just a touch of something tired creeping in, now] with a sideways look to Lala as he did. She'd be mad if she saw him worrying, maybe, but all the same --
His eyes swept to the Priestess, instead. She seemed fine, and that was when the Hunter smacked him back.
Lala jumped in on the defensive and Nergui flashed the other mare a smile before jumping on the offensive. She struck, going for a sharp jab at the hunter's stomach as she went for Ollie, but even battered and bleeding the woman was fast. She turned sharply, and the dark blade caught her coat and nothing more.
"I had thought," snarled Lala in abrupt irritation, "that these humans were frail and easy targets."

Ollie started to answer Lala -- and as he opened his mouth, the girl hit him hard in the face, enough to knock the words out of him. He blinked a couple times, stumbling.
"Not all," Nergui managed before the hunter's assault on Ollie had the mare turning back with an angry snarl. A blow to the chest sent her back a step, but she had her saber up and swinging by the time she'd regained her footing. The blow took the hunter across the collarbone, and there was the faintest welling of blood, just a touch, but it was telling.
"Her shields almost gone." This came in a vicious purr.
