Xiu's cheeks slowly inflated in a pout at the headpatting but she otherwise made no move to stop him. Remaining by Poke's side, the ghoul too began to search the rubble for any potential exits.
But as time passed, so too did her hope begin to ebb. She wasn't even sure how long it had been since the cave-in--all she knew was that despite all the digging through rubble, none of them had anything to show for it. They were still stuck here in an enclosed space, trapped in complete darkness and quickly using up what little oxygen remained.
"Still here," she answered Poke quietly after a moment of pause, her back resting against one of the walls of rubble, "How are you two holding up?" Dumb question, she knew, but still one that she wanted to ask nevertheless. She could hear the weakness in her friend's voice, and that coupled with her worry for Dakota made the ghoul more anxious than she had been in a long time.
But then, like the dragon, she heard the sound of voices from outside. Perking up, she struggled to her feet and moved over to the side where the sound seemed to be coming from, her voice joining Poke's as a burst of energy passed through her.
"Hey! Can you hear us?!"

Oh sweet sally no, no please don't go away. Pokerus grimaced and held her side as the silence stretched, her hopes dwindling away much like her FEAR was. With so little air she could only gasp, her body slouching even as Dakota told her to stay up.
"s**t" She could feel the darkness in her vision creeping in. Despair clutched at her, and she wondered if she could ever face Wilson again if something happened to Dakota. Could she even face herself?
As she felt her mind drifting away she heard something shift. Something was moving. Then it was shaking and suddenly everything was bright again.
The dragoness lifted a arm to shield her eyes from the light, it was so bright she could barely see, but the fresh air was wonderful, she would never take air granted for again. Dakota was pulled out of the rubble, and her heart swelled with relief. He would be okay!
She dropped her arm, then just stared at the hunter who was there. There was something different about him, though Pokerus wasn't sure what it was. The coat was different to Dakotas, much more intricate and lined with gold, not to mention it was a different color (Did that mean he was a different rank?) His orange hair so bright and spikey it was almost like it was on fire.
Just...who was this guy?!
When he stared at them she seemed to cower, ear fins pressed close to her head, and yet still looked at him with a sense of awe. He reached out to both her and Xiu, and she could only stare at the open hand, hardly believing what was happening at this moment.
Let's get you all home
Was he serious? Was this some sort of trap? She looked at the grin on his face, clearly unsure, but slowly she reached out to take that open hand.

Just when things looked completely hopeless, they were suddenly bathed in light. Squinting, Xiu immediately angled her head away as she tried to let her eyes adjust to the change, just barely managing to make out a figure from the corner of her eye. Like Poke, she breathed a sigh of relief when she realized that the newcomer had come to save Dakota--and then she stared blankly at the hand that was extended out towards them.
No matter what happened, she still couldn't shake the underlying feeling of doubt whenever she was face to face with a hunter. There were a few who she had met and undoubtedly grown to like--Dakota, for example--but she still couldn't help but worry. Even so, the prospect of staying here was not an appealing one, and she would much rather take her chances.
So when Poke took the offered hand, Xiu gave the hunter a tired, lopsided smile and gently set her hand on her dragon friend's back. "Home, huh? We'd really appreciate that."

There were many things he wanted to say. Such as this is not how he envisioned his life ending, He regretted not telling Candace I love you, before he left. Or that he didn't take Molly's sandwich bagged cookies with him. Or that he let Ami leave without helping these two girls.
He felt tired and ragged and....
light? The light shone through and he had never more the feeling of "When you see the light-" as he did now. He shielded it, then felt himself, all 6'5 of him, get lifted out with relative ease. The mist hunter was set aside like a doll but he couldn't even complain.
"Allan..." Dakota sighed, "Senpai or whatever." On a side note, Allan was still Dakota's most number 1 hunter to avoid besides Caelius, but only because the man INSISTED on silly costumes.
"Home...." He relaxed as the offer was extended to poke and Xiu. "Poke can't walk, I can take her." Dakota hurt, but there was no way he was going to let a girl walk by herself with the injuries she had. "This is Allan, he's...one of the better hunters." Dakota whispered to Xiu, in case she had lingering doubt. "When he says home, he's gonna take you home." And with that, he swooped Poke into a bridal carry, careful not to jostle her more then she already was.

Allan nodded encouragingly to them, and slowed his pace, enough so that it was an easy walk back. A few Hunters looked at them, mostly Sun Hunters, some just to give a strange eyebrow raise, but most of them did not say anything.
"Okay, hang on," the Sun lead took out his weapon, and raised it right at Xiu. It only took one quick movement, and then there was a portal in front of her, "that should be it! Ganbatte!" He struck a pose, and it was getting increasingly obvious that a lot of Hunters were staring.
The portal could have been a trick, or it could have been home.

Poke was thankful for the assistance from both Xiu and Dakota, glad she wouldn't have to worry about walking. But being carried bridal style by a hunter was nothing short of embarrassing. The strange looks the other hunters were giving them wasn't helping things, so she focused her gaze on Xiu and the spikey orange head guy instead. She could see he was walking slowly so they could keep up, before telling them to hold on.
Now she was able to get a look at his weapon, the sword huge when she compared it to others. Then he raised it at Xiu and wait what was he -
...Oh
...He could make portals.
The dragoness was staring, clearly surprised by the feat. She couldn't even see the sword slash, not to mention he just made a jacking portal. She never heard of hunters doing that before, at least without some magical device. And now he was saying some strange words and holy s**t look at that pose.
Since she couldn't walk, she wasn't able to move into the portal, and simply covered her face in her hands and made some mumbled comments that sounded like Oh my Jack he is so jacking cool.

Xiu allowed herself to relax slightly at Dakota's reassurance, but there was still some hesitation in the way that she carried herself. Even so, she offered Dakota a small smile and a nod of thanks before following their rescuer out of the cave, glancing back every so often to ensure that the other two were doing alright.
She tried not to look at the other hunters, curling her tail tightly around her upper leg as she walked past them. What were they thinking, she wondered? Two Halloween creatures just walking around openly like this--surely it must have been an unusual sight.
The ghoul didn't get to dwell on it on when they came to a stop. She instinctively bristled when Allan held his weapon up at her, and had been on the verge of dropping into a defensive position when she realized what he had created right in front of her. Slowly lowering her fists, she took tentative step forward, as if looking at it more closely would somehow tell her whether or not it was a trap. Then again, Dakota said that this man could be trusted and even if this did lead to a trap, they had already come this far. If those Sun Hunters lurking about had wanted to jump them, they could have easily done so now while they were all weak.
And so she offered Allan a quiet thank you before turning to Dakota and Poke and holding out her hand. "Lean your weight on me, Poke. Let's go home."

Accustomed to everything Allan did, and not really caring about the other hunters, Dakota gave Poke what he hoped was a flirty and cheerful grin.
"He opens portals." He whispered in the dragons ear. As Allan stopped, so did Dakota. As the portal was opened, He set the dragon down, slowly putting her arm around Xiu's.
Then he reached over and pat the dream eater's head.
"Okay cuties, off you go." He delicately pushed them on, "Hope we don't meet again, for safety's sake." Dakota hesitated, still holding strong. He could hold on until they left at least. God he was tired, he hurt. He wanted to go home.
