motega - native american for "new arrow"

Blood colour: #55007F

Gender: female

Symbol: sunsign

Personality: Deep in the woodland lake of an unsuspecting Alternia, there lives a being so dangerous, so merciless, so completely nightmarish, that even the most courageous of trolls- Okay, no, it's just Motega. She may be unkempt and aggressive, but she will never be some legendary enemy. She's too dumb for that.

Motega lives far from civilization and has raised herself more-or-less on her own. Her lusus let her be as independent as needed, and Mo learned quickly the needs of survival in the forest. She is an avid hunter, and always curious to learn new things about where she lives and the things that venture into her territory. Unfortunately, any living thing she comes across is just as likely to be her snack as it is to be her friend. The prey she catches in traps, whether troll or beast, is her meal for the night unless it's cunning enough to escape. Sometimes she will come across something much too endearing to kill right away and will keep it as a pet. Inevitably, the thing dies or escapes, but if Mo mourns the loss it will only be for a moment. Awa-ma has taught her that death is simply a part of life, and boy are some lives tasty. Of course she doesn't eat every animal she sees; the animals all around her can prosper just fine and she won't bother them. In fact, she's quite fascinated by their behavior and will study them and travel with them for hours on end. But if she gets too hungry they'd better be able to defend themselves.

On that note, she loves a good fight, especially when she's upset. Motega will go searching for some goliath of an enemy to battle just to blow off some steam, and once the battle is over she always feels much better. Mentally, at least. She's gotten herself pretty badly injured and only survived because Awa-ma was there to nurse her back to health with minimal scars. Her lusus tries her best to calm Motega down when she gets in one of her moods before she goes out and hurts herself, but sometimes it's only a journey from home and a few hours of strife that can cool her temper. Every once in a while she travels too far from home and gets caught in the daylight, but she has taught herself to make an impromptu shelter in these cases and is wily enough to fight off the evil creatures of the sun.

She has come across a few wandering trolls so far in her 4.75 sweeps since she's hatched. Some were lowbloods on the run from the hunt who unfortunately lost themselves in Motega's forest while she was hunting. A few were lucky enough to catch her interest, and they spoke to her for a while, appalled at how wild she seemed but friendly enough to be patient with her. Even more had piqued her interest and she followed behind them while they did their best to lose her, thinking she meant to hunt them down. To her, these trolls are creatures like all the rest. Maybe they're a bit more interesting with how they speak her language, and wear strange things on their bodies. They also look a lot more like her than anything else she's seen, and Awa-ma has confirmed that they are of her species and live spread out far across the land. Motega is interested in their culture, but also slightly put-off by some of their differences.
She understands the different castes of the hemospectrum, but not the importance of it in the social hierarchy. She understands quadrants, but the terms that Awa-ma uses are different and she believes them to be much more determined by fate than the other trolls do.

Many of Mo's provisions come from what she has stolen off of her prey, or what trolls have left behind in the forest. She didn't grow up with soporslime, but ever since she's come upon a portable recuperacoon she has learned of it's soothing properties. However, the only sopor she has access to is whatever wondering trolls leave behind in her forest, so it's often old and used and not as effective as the fresh stuff. Yes, she has eaten it (she pretty much tastes everything new she comes across), but she is not addicted.

Now then, her crappy sopor habits may or may not be a contributing factor to how... irritable she is. Or maybe it's because some wiring in her thinkpan went wrong as an egg. Or maybe all trolls would be this way if they were left to develop alone out in the forest? In any case, Motega seems to have drastically unstable emotions. Perhaps her high joys and firey anger has aided in her survival of the rough forest, but it does not leave much room for logic to enter into her decisions. Thus she lives mostly off of spontaneity and impulse.

Strengths:
Curious- You know that tendency wrigglers have to chew on and take apart everything they touch to figure out what it's made off and what it tastes like and the noises it makes when it breaks? Yeah, Motega never grew out of that. Whenever she comes upon anything new, trust her to poke in every nook and cranny to learn what it's all about. She even enjoys dissecting her meals before eating them. It's not just the physical world she's curious about, either. She talks to Awa-ma about all sorts of things like a possibility of life after death, and whoever thought up her blood-symbol anyway? When she finds trolls willing to speak to her, she surely questions them non-stop.

Brave- Given her rough life in the wild, confidence in her ability to survive has become essential. She's unafraid of jumping straight into a fight, especially with the beasties, and doesn't give much of a damn about ruffling her hair or getting injured. She's lived through enough broken teeth and flayed skin to know it's not that easy to be killed. At least, not when you put up a good fight.

Assertive- When Motega wants something, there is close to no stopping her from getting it, whether it's that tutifruit hanging from the highest branch, some poor lost troll's shiny anklet, or the answers to her most pressing questions. She will face all obstacles head on and take charge of the situation until she gains her prize, no matter the consequences. If it is knowledge she seeks, she will not be shy to ask question after question even if the other troll gets so fed up that they stop answering her. It's also not past her to sneak into a hive when she wants to learn more about a person, and getting caught is not a worry that would weigh on her mind. If attaining the object desires turns out to be impossible (by her point of view, at least) she can get pretty dang upset and desperate... and then bad things happen.

Flaws:
Temperamental- Possibly the most characteristic thing about Motega is her erratic temperament. At first she might be congenial and innocent, but once she gets angry, she gets angry. Violence and roaring and bitter tears will ensue in the worst of cases, and it will take quite the patience and consoling to calm her down again. It doesn't take much to set her off, either. She will be hopping around the forest having fun and laughing, but once she comes upon some frustrating obstacle or unattainable goal, those sparkly kawaii-desu eyes will leap with flames in the next nanosecond. This may endure until she exhausts herself or until the problem is solved. As soon as it's over, though, she will return to her care-free self in no time at all.

Callous- Mo may come across as rude and insensitive, and well... I guess she is. Not on purpose, no, but she lacks that little something one possesses that detects when they've pushed someone too far. She really has no regard for personal space, information, or possessions, and this of course can tick off quite a few people. She usually does not process their discomfort, unfortunately, unless someone gets really mad at her. The only thing she really understands in that case is yelling and bared teeth, so her antics can get pretty far until she realizes she has offended.

Uncultured- She. Lives. In the woods! So she's pretty ignorant of the customs and cultures of your usual troll society. Many would find her to be an ignorant savage who is as dense as a portalstaple. Her body language and mannerisms and disregard for etiquette would most likely repulse the majority, and her illiteracy makes it all the more difficult to understand her. She can speak Alternian, her lusus made sure of that, but some vocabulary and concepts are far beyond her comprehension.

Weapon: Bone-knives. She's carved many weapons from the bones of her prey, and always has at least one knife on her at a time. They come in many different styles and sizes, but her favorites for fighting are a pair of curved blades. (reference)

Appearance: Motega wears the skin of swim-beats she's come upon in the river to keep her warm but remain aerodynamic in water. Awa-ma has told her the importance of her hatch-symbol, so she always keeps it displayed in her color on the front of whatever she's wearing, which is usually a simple raggedy top tied in the back and a loin-cloth. There's often beads woven into the strips of fur that hang off her clothes and in the messy braids of her hair. She likes to weave her hair into plaits, but she doesn't keep it under very good control so it gets plenty tangled anyway. She also likes to stick wing-beast feathers in the braids where she can.
Motega has a rather tired-looking countenance since her sopor-slime is always old and used. Her front three teeth are rounded, but the rest of her fangs have sharpened for her carnivorous appetite. Her horns curl up from above each fin, and have a small branch curving in the opposite direction. She wears nothing on her feet, but has a beaded anklet around her left ankle.

Home: Four Fronds - Motega lives on the deep side of the lake of the forest. Her hive is built into a small cliff on the bank from river weeds and tree limbs and mud. It is partially submerged in the lake so she can enter it from the water, or just crash through the roof like she often does. She doesn't take good care of her hive and because of her temper-tantrums it's constantly falling to pieces. Awa-ma encourages her to keep it together and does her best to help Motega when re-building is in order.

Lusus: The turtle-giraffe, Awa-ma, is wise and calm, practically the polar opposite of her troll. Awanata teaches Motega the legends of her planet, most of which are tales made up on the spot to teach life-lessons that are important for Mo to learn if she is to survive on Alternia. Recently, she has decided that Mo has come to the age that she can live her own life without a lusus to guide her, but Mo always returns to her home after a night or two. She gets irritable and homesick when away from Awa-ma, and so far her lusus is the only one that is able to settle her down when her rage gets out of hand.
Awanata has the long neck of giraffe emerging from the shell of a turtle, and a turtle's beak. Her legs are made to paddle through water, not to carry her girth over land, though she can crawl onto the lake beach and rest if she needs to. Mo and Awa explore downriver quite often, too.

dang what the heck is this, some kind of staff crit? crazy times, crazy times. mo is a solid troll, and what you have written down works out perfectly, but i have some huge itching big questions.

first of all, what the heck is up with her lusus? rasing her seadweller out in the woods, keeping her away from all other trolls? she seems to know the importance of teaching her the hemospectrum and basic stuff like that, so why is she isolating mo in the middle of nowhere? and not even that but on land? is she unable to fully submerge underwater due to her giraffe head? surprised

secondly, how is mo going to meet and befrendemy other trolls and get a chance to participate in shopwide events? though i love her 'troll of the wild' theme, right now it feels like the only way she can meet other trolls is if they get lost in her woods, so there doesn't seem to be a chance of her forming any solid relationships that go beyond the stockholm syndrome of her keeping them locked up in her house to stare at.

thirdly, is this written for teen!mo or kid!mo? it seems to be generally all purpose for both, but if there's any distinctions you'd like to make for her younger stage, i'd recommend doing that now = u =
