As one of them put it, "Japan is more than the tv shows that come from there! Learning culture from their shows is like a foreigner learning American culture from popular TV shows here!"

EDIT: omfg I just remembered a really funny story that is sort of relevant to this thread too. I get my nails done at this salon owned by this awesome Vietnamese family. One time when I was getting a manicure they had a "Friends" dvd playing. The guy who was doing my nails was like "oh yeah, my grandma loves this show! She doesn't really speak much english, so she doesn't understand what the characters are saying most of the time...but she thinks the actors are pretty!"

Basically what I'm trying to say is that I am just like that Vietnamese granny?? rofl
