Crit Disclaimer & Shop Policies Regarding Troll Get

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Quote:
As Hivestuck is a rp focused store, players must also have a profile accepted for their troll before they are allowed to play it in the store, and before it will grow. This forum is for people to post profiles. You don't have to have art for your troll to quest for a profile, however you do have to have the art to play it in the shop.

To have your troll accepted, you will most likely be given some constructive criticism to help keep all accepted trolls up to shop standards. However! Don't think of getting criticism as an insult or a setback, think of it as someone is interested in your troll and wants to help get them into the shop! Whenever shop staff bring up things that need attention during a crit, it is important to consider that we just might not understand the full picture of your troll - and you simply need to make sure the parts that are in your head are expressed properly in their profile.

As for what we look for in troll quests, we ideally want to make sure that nothing in the profile is contradictory, that you have considered and written about the key points we ask for in the character form (see below), that your troll can interact with others in the shop, and that your character will fit in with established shop canon.

Quote:
There are two shop policies to remember that relate to getting trolls.

Firstly, trolls that are marked as such when given out, and all premades, are subject to a rehome policy that prevents users from holding onto the art without a finished quest indefinitely. It is detailed here! If you are getting a custom/semi-custom troll and it is not marked as following the rehome rules, then it does not apply. Typically, we will only use this rule on trolls won via events.

Secondly, users may only have a maximum of three child-stage trolls at once. If you do not have three child-stage trolls then you can qualify for any events giving out trolls (unless they are for a specific group of users). If you do have three child-stage trolls, you must grow one or more if you want to acquire any new ones via events, customs, breeding, or any other method. Users can have unlimited teen, adult, and other stage trolls.

Confused? Read on, this thread will explain every way and every step towards getting your own troll. If you still need assistance, please visit this thread!

If this is your first time making a troll, please read the entire thread through, from top to bottom.

Opportunities to Get a Troll

Quote:
Events

Events encompass rp prompts, dice games, contests, and other competitive events. They are usually divided into regular Events which are mostly ooc (Anniversary, Holiday troll rp contests), Mini-Metas (short in-character mod-run rp adventures), and Metas (large in-character mod-run rp adventures, usually advancing the overall story of the shop)

Events are possible ways to get trolls with powers or mutant blood, or other special types of trolls, as detailed below. Most large meta events (winter/summer events, bloodfest) will give people who have no trolls an opportunity to play with any quest profile that has already been accepted, and compete in the events related to the meta.

Quote:
Event Points

Each time they compete in an event, users will be given 1 to 3 event points. Hoarding these up can allow you to get free semicustom and custom trolls. 10 EP can be exchanged for one semicustom and 20 can be exchanged for a full custom troll. The larger the event and the more activity required, the more points will be given away. For events that require intensive activity (2 weeks - a month, various activities) then the 3 limit will be surpassed.

Quote:
Breeding

Adult trolls can breed! An adult will require an official matesprit and a kismesis, these trolls will generate from one to four babies. Owners will get first pick of the babies, to be decided between them before the number is calculated, and any leftovers will be put towards raffles. Babies claimed by the owners can be given to friends or kept.

Getting a Troll For Dummies

Quote:
I have nothing!

1) read through the creating-a-troll guidelines.
2) copy-paste the application form to a new thread in the application subforum
3) fill out necessary fields.
4) wait for crit from other players, or post straight in the review/acceptance thread.
5) change parts if necessary, in regards to any feedback you've received.
6) resubmit to the review/acceptance thread and repeat if not accepted.
7) complete the "I have my application accepted, but not my trolls art!" list below.

Quote:
I have my trolls art, but not my application accepted!

1) complete steps 1 to 6 on the "I have nothing" list above.
2) wait for the shop NPC to post a journal for your troll
3) your troll is now ready to roleplay in the shop, a winner is you.

Quote:
I have my application accepted, but not my trolls art!

1) check to see if any events are active or forthcoming in the main thread
2) when events are on, join up and be active. you can get a semicustom troll just from participating in ten events, through ep. you don't even have to win them.
3) when you have the ep required, order via the art thread.
4) wait for the shop NPC to post a journal for your troll
5) your troll is now ready to roleplay in the shop, a winner is you.

After Getting a Troll
Quote:
Once your troll has been officially accepted and given a journal thread by the shop mule, you should post in it. Having a journal is required, at minimum to keep track of roleplays completed. It should also be where you keep your troll's personal information, items received, fan art, and any other related information.

An empty journal means not only that no one can learn about your character to approach you for rp, but it also means your troll will not be eligible to grow until the bare minimum requirements are met.

If your troll has developed as a character or their personality has otherwise gone in a different direction than what is written in their journal, please submit revisions to this thread for approval.

Another place to post, though not required, is in the character plots subforum. There you can put up a thread with information about what your character is looking for in terms of rp. Looking for friends? Enemies? Does your troll want to find other trolls with similar interests? If so, post it in there so other people can come and offer their trolls up for rp.

After you have done one or both, the entirety of Alternia is open for exploration! Go forth young troll and don't die.

Build-A-Troll Information

Quote:
Troll Life

Trolls have a rich and varied world and cultural background that is based on an aggressive, cast-based warrior culture that at the same time parodies various parts of earth. There's simply too much to write about here, and we have compiled all information that the average troll would know about in various threads in the information subforum.

For full information about the troll species, and society, check out this thread!
For information on what a troll's Lusus is and how to make one, look in this thread.

Quote:
Troll Names

Troll names are similar to traditional human names in the fact that they have a first and last name. However, as trolls never know, or in a sense have biological parents (apart from every single troll who contributed dna to their egg batch), last names don't show any family link. Troll names are usually reflective of their personality or theme, and can contain references to various earth languages, mythical figures, and objects. These are given to them by their lusii.

Trolls have six letter names. If they're longer, try cutting them down to six letters, (ex karkat from karkata) while for names that fall under six letters, try and find an alternative, or try and tack something on at the end.

Canon Examples!
Karkat Vantas
themed around the cancer zodiac sign
Karkat = karkata is the hindu astrological sign for cancer.
Vantas = cancer treatment drug.

Kanaya Maryam
themed around the virgo zodiac sign
Kanaya = indian word for virgo.
Maryam = arabic name for mary, in reference to the virgin mary.

Fantroll Examples!
Tigris Ennuye
themed around tigers and jerks
Tigris = latin name for tiger.
Ennuyeux = french word for annoying.

Adrast Themis
themed around impending justice
Adrast = adrastia, latin for inescapable/not running away.
Themis = greek titaness, embodiment of divine order, law, and custom.

Quote:
Troll Style

Trolls are a very utilitarian race, and tend to waste little to no time on their outfits. The most popular colours for trolls to wear are black, black, and grey. Trolls tend to use their blood colour to accent their clothing, although some occasionally will add other colours as well. Few trolls are fashion inclined, but occasionally you will find a troll who spices up their wardrobe with a little bit more pizazz, or indeed tries to get their friends to at least match their shoes to their handbag. Seadwellers, being nobility, claim the right to wear jewelry and flamboyant clothing, and often have the means, luxury and time to put together much more extravagant outfits.

A troll will always ornament and base their outfit around their chosen symbol. Starting as a child, they will always display it clearly on the centre of their clothing in the colour of their blood, which continues into teenagerhood, while by the time they have become adults, they will have time to design an outfit with it worked in more subtly.

Very occasionally a young troll will go for hemoanonimity, and hide their blood colour with grey on their clothing. However, as they age to adults and their eyes become the colour of their blood, this is something they are unable to keep up and they will have to face the social consequences of hiding their colour away.

Quote:
Symbols

Symbols are what trolls use instead of last names for family heritage. They are simple and distinct, and are worn on the troll's clothing at all times. While symbols can be taken from preexisting places, and the original canon troll's symbols were taken from the zodiac, they can also be made up. Symbols should be designed as silhouettes. More examples of symbols can be seen in the current list of shop trolls on the front page. A troll's symbol is usually designed by themselves, or taken from inspiration around them. No troll scientist is quite sure how children manage to end up with symbols matching those of their closest genetic donors, but believe it to be a sort of genetic memory.

Trolls born in-shop from shop characters must choose the symbol of one of their three troll 'parents', aka genetic material donors, and trolls born from the same egg have the same symbol, but other than that symbols must be sufficiently different from taken ones as to be easily distinguishable.

Blood Colours

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
A troll's blood colour places them in their initial position in life, and gives themselves and other trolls biases about them. Troll social standing goes, in lowest to highest social status, from redbloods, to orangebloods, to yellowbloods, to greenbloods, to tealbloods, to bluebloods, to purplebloods. Trolls must have blood that sits within this spectrum and in a certain saturation range, or they are seen as mutantbloods, which the caste system (Hemospectrum) is not equipped to deal with, and are usually culled on sight. Mutantbloods do not get a parental Lusus, as their blood colours are truly a mutation and do not show up in the beasts that act as their parents, so most of these trolls end up dying simply through having no parent, before they are ever found by other trolls.

To help determine what color caste your troll falls in, take a look at the color brackets infographic under the spoiler.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

The colors below are those that are special in shop, either because they are a rarity in the population or give some sort of inherit advantage to the trolls receiving them. They can be quested for, but will only be given out through special events that state they are for either seadwelling purplebloods, jadebloods or mutantbloods.

Trolls with jade green ██ (#078446) blood, as they will naturally become rainbowdrinkers upon death.

Any colour that is clearly mutant, such as any color that is
highly saturated ██
highly desaturated ██
overly pale ██
overly dark ██
This is an acceptable version of the above colour deviations. ██

Anything between
here ██ (#99004D)
and
here ██ (#990019)

aka colours between the queen's purple (highest purpleblood possible) and the lowblood red, as blood within this range is outside the Hemospectrum and considered mutant.

And finally, any seadwelling purple, which is trolls who's blood falls between This ██ (#8820BF) and this ██ (#8E005B)

Quote:
Powers and Mutant trolls

Powered/mutant trolls are considered special in-shop due to their relative rarity vs the normal population. They can be quested for, but will only be given out through special events that state they are for either 'powered' or 'mutant' trolls. They can also be 'unlocked' as rewards in some meta events as a latent power, something your troll was always capable of but did not realize until that moment.

As a race, trolls are blessed with psychic powers, not limited to telekinesis, pyrokinesis, levitation, and the ability to commune with animals. Low-blooded trolls are far more likely to be born with psychic powers, with the likelyhood decreasing the higher they are up the hemospectrum. It is very rare for a troll with green blood or higher to be born with any psychic ability.

Physical powers aka mutations would be abnormal changes in a troll's body, such as being super-strong, super-intelligent, or super-stealthy, or having some other sort of physical mutation, such as a lowblood that can breathe underwater, a troll with wings, or any other abnormal bodily state that assists your troll in some way. Highbloods manifest these powers more commonly than lowbloods. In highbloods, they are seen as a natural and normal thing (a physical power) vs manifesting in a lowblood they are seen more as a weird genetic flaw (a mutation). Weird horns are not a mutation. You can have weird horns.

No power that allows a troll to godmod, control another troll, or gain undisclosed meta information will be allowed. Mind control, mind reading, or anything of this ilk will be reserved for NPC characters for metaplot purposes only, and not available to shop users. Trolls can only have a maximum of one power, and once a power is gained, it cannot be swapped out at any time during the future.

Each troll with a power must pick one way it can be used in combat, and keep that as how it will manifest in a battle. See the powers post in the battle info thread for more information on powers in combat.

Quote:
Seadwellers, Jadebloods, and Mutantbloods

These three troll types also fall under the same rarity as powered/mutant trolls. These trolls again, can be quested for, but will only be given out through special events that state they are for either 'seadwelling' 'jadeblood' or 'mutantblood' trolls.

Seadwellers are rare simply due to their high hue. These are the rare rulers of troll society. All seadwellers have high purple blood, and fins on the side of their face. They also possess gills, allowing them to breathe in water. They all tend to have seadwelling Lusii, and the majority live underwater. Seadwellers cannot ever be created with a power -- they can only get powers by unlocking them latently via events.

Jadebloods are trolls who, on death when they are at teenager stage or upwards, all naturally become the special life stage rainbowdrinker. These trolls also naturally possess resistance to Alternain sunlight and go outside during the day. Finally, these trolls can, if they choose, have a virgin mother grub as their lusus. Jadebloods cannot ever be created with a power -- they can only get powers by unlocking them latently via events.

Mutantbloods are the rarest type of troll. These only show up once in a blue moon. A mutantblood troll is one with a blood hue that falls outside the accepted spectrum. Mutantblood trolls never get a Lusus, as no mutantblood lusii exist. These trolls must be protected by a teen or adult troll if they want to participate in battles as a kid, and are generally viewed as unclean creatures that should be chased away or culled on sight by the vast majority of the population. Mutantbloods also follow the same rule as the above two trolls in that they cannot ever be created with a power -- they can only get powers by unlocking them latently via events.

Quest Form
Copy-paste this code into a new thread, titled with the name and blood colour of the troll you are questing for. Please write your application in past-tense, third person and avoid writing heavily in the perspective of your troll. While we love TROLLS and the WRITING THEREOF, the Homestuck format can be very hard to parse out for critique.

Name: see the naming guide above for tips and help.

Blood colour: helpful for personality and appearance. key to your troll's position in the hemospectrum. to find the hex code for your colour, use colorpicker.com

Gender: take your pick. on alternia, traditional gender roles do not exist, and indeed if there is a bias, it is usually towards girls being more violent and rough rather than the other way around.

Symbol: check the taken symbols in the main thread's troll list before you set your heart on one! if your troll was bred from other shop trolls, you're allowed to use any of their symbols. if you're creating one, please make sure it is simple enough to distinguish easily, and to be identifiable at any size.

Profile: who is your troll? what are they like? how do they think? give their basic personality with an explanation of any thoughts and beliefs that are outside of the social norm. along with this, please include a few hobbies, any goals they have, their views on basic troll life (the hemospectrum and their own place in it) and where they can usually be found on any given night. remember to touch on the strengths and weaknesses that you will elaborate in the sections below, as well as on their relationship with their lusus.

this should be written for your troll's child stage(6-10yrs), rather than containing anything that might happen to them in the future. teen(11-16yrs)/adult(17+yrs) changes and growth can be submitted as an edited profile later on in their life, if or when things change.

Strengths: two minimum, four maximum. think of strengths as things other trolls would admire about your troll, or that help your troll in some way during everyday life. try and keep strengths and flaws balanced in number.
Flaws: two minimum, four maximum. think of flaws as things other trolls would dislike about your troll, or that hinder and hurt your troll in some way during everyday life. try and keep strengths and flaws balanced in number.

Weapon: each troll needs to learn how to defend themselves in combat. what weapon has your troll chosen? it is ok to choose a weapon that has been used by another troll. your weapon must be able to kill another creature, but apart from that, anything goes!

Appearance: what does your troll look like? what hairstyle do they have? clothing/style? feel free to use photo/image references. if you want to design their outfit, please focus on kid stage, and keep it simple. troll outfits only get elaborate once they're adults. remember! trolls have black hair, orange horns, grey skin, and tend to have outfits that are mostly grey and black.

Home: where has your troll chosen to build their first house? locations currently available: forest, city, suburb, desert, mountain, lakeside, plains, beach, cave, swamp, ocean and lake (ocean and lake available to aquatic trolls only). please check the troll info mega-thread in the information subforum for a more in-depth explanation on where you are placing your troll! what does their house look like? what is their aesthetic?

Lusus: what strange creature has taken your troll under their wing? maybe something that your troll might have picked up habits from? how do the two get along, and how has this creature chosen to raise it's charge? if you are uncertain of what to do for a lusus, check out the lusus information thread. as a kid, your lusus will accompany your troll on all trips away from home or, depending on it's temperament, bar your troll from straying too far from it's hive. while your troll will have the freedom to go where they like as a teen, as a child you lusus will always try and accompany you! a troll's lusus must be capable of defending them from the dangers found on alternia when they are a child.

Power: optional. see power section above for more information. each troll can only ever have a maximum of one power.

if you want to add anything else to your troll's app, feel free to do so in a separate post below the official application. Talking quirks, detailed history, 'what if' information, and any other things you want to add can go here.
