Julien Moretti took a trip to Matera, Italy, following the family genealogy he’d looked up on the internet. Besides, he wanted to visit the place “The Passion of the Christ” was filmed. He wasn’t big on religion, but it was still a good movie, and he was interested. Not to mention all of the other places Italy was known for- Rome, Verona, Venice, and Florence to name a few.

After his visit to Matera, he stopped through Rome, throwing a coin into the fountain and making a wish as was tradition, and Verona, the city Romeo and Juliet had taken place. It was one of his favorite plays by William Shakespeare, even if it was only for Mercutio. He’d always thought the idea of love at first sight was ridiculous and improbable. That was why he merely thought that the guy who seemed to be around everywhere he’d been since arriving in Italy was weird but good looking. He just hoped that the stranger wasn't some distant relative. That would just be creepy.

Julien Moretti
Age: 21
Likes: Julien likes being alone, but he also likes being around people. He’ll often go places alone that will have a few people around. He also likes dogs. He has a husky that is his best friend.
Dislikes: He dislikes large crowds, romance, and sweets. He thinks romance is overrated and doesn’t mean what it used to mean. Sweets make him feel sick and gross.
Additional background: He remembered an assignment he did for a seventh grade project and decided to pursue it in deeper detail. He found out that he had family in Italy that he’d never met, and decided to take a tour of Italy for a few weeks. Since he wasn’t in school, it was easy to take the required time off work and get the airline ticket to Matera, where his family lived.

Romeo Candela
Age: 25
Likes: Romeo likes art and is for that reason, studying painting in Rome. He also has an especially fond liking for cats. Rather social, his intelligence & wit are as sharp as his fencing skills. He participates in tournaments often.
Dislikes: Romeo dislikes black olives & peas with a vengeance, cannot stand failure, and is disgusted by boredom. He feels that boredom is an excuse for lack of imagination.
Additional background: Romeo is a native born Italian, although he studied abroad in the U.S. during his high school years. Thus, he can speak fluent English, as well as, his mother tongue. Romeo is an only child and is living by himself in a studio while he goes to university. He was visiting his parents in Matera when he first saw Julien. Romeo is harboring a centuries old vendetta against the other man.

You play the guy following Julien. This is a realistic romance roleplay. If it turns into a cliche type roleplay, I'll close it.

Rules
>Follow Gaia ToS. Please. I really don't want to have any bad things happen to this thread. This means nothing over PG-13. Trust me. If I can censor myself, then anyone else can censor themselves as well.

>Follow Guild Tos. If you don't know what these, or the Gaia Tos, are, go look them up.

>No god-moding. You play your character, I play mine. Any other characters that might come up can be played by either person and are up for grabs whenever either person feels the need to use a secondary character.

>This is a semi-literate to literate roleplay. This means proper grammar, usage, mechanics (punctuation), and spelling. Please proofread and double proofread before posting. A few mistakes are acceptable and understandable.

>I ask that you post at least two sentences. I know it's not always easy to come up with something to say, so I'm not going to ask for multi-paragraph posts, although those would be awesome.

>PM me your profile and title it "Romeo and... Julien?"

>Put a ninja somewhere in your PM to show that you read all of the rules.

>Write your profile in the color you are going to use when posting. I'll be using blue.

((I think the reason no one has picked this up is because of your stipulation that the storyline not become cliche... What exactly do you mean by that? Clarifying this may, bring you someone to roleplay with. Do you not want to follow the original storyline or do you not want it be unrealistically gooey, angsty, etc.? Also, having Romeo be a stalker might be a long stretch, if you don't want things to be cliche. Just a thought. Good luck~))

^_^ Thank you for the constructive criticism. I never thought of how it might confuse people.

What I mean by cliche is that I do want to follow the original storyline to a point. I really don't want them killing themselves after only three days. That makes for a rather short roleplay. I don't want unrealistic gooey, angst-y stuff.

((You're welcome : D I could possibly play your Romeo to your Julien, but I'm in the middle of mid-terms. If no one else, has taken the spot by Feb. 21st, I'll send you a profile~))

Romeo sighed as he headed towards his studio apartment. The cobble stoned streets of Rome were now familiar to him after studying painting for the last two quarters at the university. As he ran through the list of things he needed to pack that night for his trip back home, Romeo shook his head, ‘I really shouldn’t have promised mother that I’d come visit the family during Spring Break. Seriously, what was I thinking?’ he asked himself silently, ‘And then, there is Rosaline… I-- still love her, but… She is so persistent that avoiding her gets harder every time I return to Matera.’

Coming to the door of his studio flat that overlooked the old part of the city, Romeo entered, plopping his messenger bag on the floor next to a pile of his shoes before heading towards the bathroom. He peeled his clothes off as he went, thoughts of a cool shower absorbing his mind. It had been a relatively warm day, promising a strong heat wave when summer arrived. After finishing his last final in History of Art, Romeo had eaten lunch with Mercutio at a café kitty-corner to their favorite antique bookstore. Lamenting the fact that he wouldn’t be able to accompany Romeo back to their home town, Mercutio had wished Romeo good luck as they parted their separate ways.

Now, as the refreshing shower water slid across the planes of his chest and back, Romeo let his consciousness slip away, humming some forgotten tune. An hour later, he was suddenly jolted awake by the church bell proclaiming that it was 5 o’ clock in the evening. Turning off the water hurriedly, Romeo grabbed his towel, drying off vigorously. He still had dinner to eat and bags to pack and he wanted to get a full nights rest. His flight left at 9am the next morning. Tossing some clothes on, Romeo patted his pockets for his wallet as he exited the studio. He was in the mood for some Pakistani food tonight.

Julien sighed as he trudged into the restaurant. He was exhausted from packing for three days straight, and he was wishing his husky, Alex, was allowed in. Of course, he wasn't since Alex wasn't a service dog.

Julien shrugged to himself and shoved his hands in his pockets, hunching slightly. The restaurant was busier than he'd thought it would be on a night like tonight. "Well, crap," he mumbled to himself. "Oh, well. Might as well eat since I'm already here." He tried to keep his distance without being rude as another man took a spot behind him at the hostess stand.

((Romeo's linky for his pic is not working... Sorry it took me so long to reply. Blame it on finals XD))

As the plane took off, rapidly climbing into the early morning sky, Romeo closed his eyes, sleepy from staying up until 3 am to finish his packing. He’d only gotten three hours of sleep total. It wasn’t long before he was off in dreamland, or more or less nightmare land, if Romeo was honest with himself. He hadn’t had a night of peaceful sleep for the past four years and so, as he slept, his mind was taken over by dark, but very real nightmares. Lately, the same scene kept replaying in a continuous loop.

The nightmare always started out beautifully. Romeo would find himself in an exquisite garden alcove with his lovely Rosaline. She looked like she was glowing with joy and she smiled at him like she used to. The mere presence of her filled him with happiness. But then, the scene would shift quickly, every detail standing in sharp relief, almost so sharp it pierced one’s eyes’. Romeo watched himself take a swallow of the rich red wine he was served, could feel the odd burn as it went down and the subsequent closing up of his throat as his breathing got difficult and his oxygen was cut off. Soon everything grew fuzzy as his world tilted and went black. Romeo could barely hear screaming that sounded as if it came from a long ways away and then, devastated sobbing. In the struggle for his painful last breath, he’d always jolt awake in a cold sweat, his mind groping for reality.

However, that was the problem, Romeo had long since come to realize that his ceaseless nightmares had once been his reality; part of a distant past. What he couldn’t figure out was why his death scene was stuck on repeat. Was it a warning or a sign of some sort? Did it mean what he feared the most was about to happen once more? If it meant that, Romeo knew what to expect. This time around, he was prepared, had been prepared for the last three years. This time around, there would be only one person left dead in cold blood, the right person. ‘I will get my happily ever after,’ Romeo thought grimly as he shut his eyes again, looking for more sleep.

((The link's my fault. I'll fix it. Don't worry about the time. Finals are a pain in the you-know-where.))

Julien had noticed him, this man that didn't seem to sleep peacefully. Ever. He had given Julien a look as he boarded the plane. One that said he knew who Julien was. Well, goody for him because half the time, Julien didn't even know himself.

He had been looking forward to this trip for a while. He'd be damned if he let some man he'd never met before ruin it for him. He wished again, as he had at least every ten minutes, that Alex hadn't had to be put in a crate with the other animals. This plane was crowded. "Oh, well," he sighed, pulling out his headphones and shoving them in his ears. "Maybe some music and sleep will help."

It did help, too. He fell asleep quicker than he would have though, what with all the nerves and excitement he was feeling. When he woke, it was to the sound of the pilot telling the passengers that they were now flying over the Matera capital, and asking the passengers to please put their seats upright and to buckle their belts as the plane prepared to land. Julien did as asked and looked out the window to catch a glimpse of where he would be staying for the remainder of his journey.

After Romeo had fallen asleep for a second time, he was oddly granted blissful, dreamless rest. He had awakened just as the plane had touched the runway in Matera. Now, that he was in the baggage claim, waiting for his two pieces of luggage, the oddity of having a peaceful, but dreamless sleep hit him. In some ways, his fitful rest appeared more ominous than those frightful nightmares he had recently been plagued by. Dreamlessness was almost synonymous with the blank blackness of being dead. Romeo tried to contain a shudder as he stared fixedly at the blinking plane designation sign at the top of the baggage carousel. He tried to think of nothing…

His concentration didn’t last long as a blur of motion caught the corner of is eye and he turned reflexively to look at whatever it was. Romeo’s gaze landed upon the young man he had seen early, who also seemed to be a student on vacation. The other man had looked eerily familiar in a bone-chilling sort of way. Romeo wondered if this man had played an important role in his past life. He truly hoped they weren’t connected in any way. As he quickly made a checklist of all the people still missing from those tragic events, he compared the image of this young man with those he could remember of the past. None of the faces matched. Something was coming up short. Romeo’s unease intensified.

When the carousel finally started moving, he let out a tense sigh and shifted his attention to finding his black leather suitcase and charcoal grey artist case. The artist case was full of finished paintings Romeo’s mother had specified she wanted to use to redecorate the living room & other various spaces and several works in progress that he had wanted to finish over vacation. Quickly spotting his bags, he soon had them off of the carousel and was walking towards the automatic doors that led off onto the street. Romeo had notified his parents of his arrival time a week in advance, so he comfortably found a spot on a nearby bench and parked himself there, keeping an eye out for his mother’s old 1991 blue Honda.

Julien found his suitcase and bag, slung the bag over the handle of his rolling suitcase, shifted his carry-on on his back, and went to claim Alex. He would leave the crate at the airport since it had been a rental anyway. He snapped a leash on the dog's collar and headed outside to try to hail a cab to his hotel.

He groaned softly to himself when he found the man from before was waiting as well. Then, he gave a shout as Alex lurched towards the man, straining at his leash. "No, Alex. Down. Heel." However, the husky didn't listen and pulled Julien to the man, sniffing and licking him, becoming friendly with him. "Alex, down," Julien repeated. "You don't jump on people. Sir, I'm sorry. He's usually very well behaved. I don't know what's gotten into him."
