To me, it is a word that describes something that is as close to 'perfect' as anything can ever get.
Since, you know, nothing can ever be 'perfect'.

It's all personal preference, really; there aren't any specific standards that I can think of.
Like, I personally think forget-me-nots are beautiful, but someone else could think that they are totally hideous.

Beautiful is something that means something to someone.
Sure, it's also very pretty a lot of times,
But lots of things are very pretty.
It should be something dear also,
for it to be beautiful.
Like my boyfriend is beautiful, but I couldn't tell him that. xP
But our love is beautiful, and so is the work he does on his computer.
You see?
That's what beautiful is to me.

Beautiful is art.
Everything you can see, smell, hear, taste, feel or know is art.
In it's own way, everything is beautiful.
That's my take on it.
