I've gotten over it over and over again

I.
HATE.
SELF.
PORTRAITS.

I have 2 that look nothing like me, AT ALL.

After about 10 minutes of staring at one with my mom we concluded that it looks more like me if we turn it up-side down. rofl rofl

Although I can see an improvement between the two (Last one was done around mothers day, one was done today) Neither of them resemble myself at all rofl

Do you find self-portraits hard? What's your experience like with them?

Oh man, I don't think i'll psot the old one because it's disgusting, but I'll definitely post the new one once I'm done tweaking it. I'll probably put it in my thread in the mentees forum, because that's what it's for xD

I just realized I made the eyes too far apart on mine, and it's wayyy too late to fix that. D:<

Maybe you should try drawing it upside down then?

Self portraits force you to really get your shapes and angles right, since you know your face more than anything. (Although, some people lie to themselves and draw themselves how they want to look, rather than how they look.)

Keep at it. Nothing worth doing comes easy!

The trick is not to draw what you -think- is there, and instead draw what you SEE. That's the hard part. biggrin Keep at it and you'll get it eventually. Just look carefully before drawing anything!

I have found that there are two methods to doing a self portriat.
1. Is looking in the mirror. Sounds simple yet we are always surprised by what we find out about our face. So memorize your face for that day.

2. Take a picture in moderate light. You don't want the light to bright cause some of your features will be drowned out. You need the light more natural so that it shows all your features.

If you have the right picture of yourself it should be able to draw yourself. Different poses are also helpful so you can draw what you feel.

The first self portrait I drew was in fourth grade. I used crayons.

It's... "cute." c: Then I tried again a second time when I was in high school - um, junior year, maybe? - digitally. Never finished it, looks nothing like me.

I feel the OP's pain, man. xD lol

what will help you if you create grids on thhe orginal paper and on the paper your drawing(draw the lines very light). It will help you get the porportions right. Hope this helps you. :3 practice makes perfect!
