I've just gotten into the game myself. its pretty fun game once you get use to it. Its pretty easy to learn but since there are so many cards out there, you'll find yourself asking your opponent what does that do a lot more than you would with yu-gi-oh. Thats pretty much all I have to say about it.

I played Magic for a good while.. I used a monster Type fairy`s. But In my time of playing There are so much things to do in the game it self. A player neads a deck and to play the game with knolagable players.. and by doing this your lurn the in and the outs of the game and your deck.
The pro`s to the game - Unlimited Abilltys in game play. - So meany tyipes of monsters and effects. - Chalanging game play - Easy Game to lurn. - fun game to play. - it takes more effort to win and make decks. - 4 Tyipes of cards with all diffrent effects and abilltys. - two vs two or 6vs6 or even 20 vs 20 abilltys( eney amount of player abilltys)( more the fun it gets) - Players of all ages and ranks. -it takes one new ''Fat pack'' and a deck to get started with a crap loads of trades. - you play to bend the rules to your use , in terms increas your yugioh game play (to experment and think out side the box)
Con`s - Your be asking alot about cards at first. - Fat packs are around 100 $ of so - Takes time to under stand the deck your using.(your going to suck at first to pro class players) - get a habbit of Drawing 7 unlike 5 in yugioh and using a 60 car deck (that menas rely nothing) - to be good play the good and lurn and watch how thay play there decks and how thay play there feald.
But I love the game And its Even better that yugioh in means of keeping intrested for long time.. like my granfather age 87 has his deck from when he was in his younger years .. and he playes still o.e

Anata wa watashi ga zutto mae ni "sayounara" to yutta hito wo omoidasaseru. It's not that hard for a newbie to pick up. Assuming you want to play casually, just look for a starter deck that has cards you like. I believe I started with...10th edition core set, Arcanis Guile.
It was a monoblue deck based on keeping your hand full of cards and attacking with flyers. I loved it. I eventually evolved it into a Blue/White bird deck that I still use every now and then.
Again, if you're looking to play casual, here's the advice a friend gave me:
Keep it to 1 or 2 colors. Pick 25-35 cards that you really like and put them in the deck. Then, add up all of the land symbols...not the numbers, just the symbols. Divide each separate symbol by 3 and that's how many lands of that specific kind you should put in your deck. You should have between 60 and 65 by the end of it.
This is horrible advice for tournament play though. If you're looking to play pro...I'm not the person to look at for advice.
Though, I will end with this. If you can learn what each of the key words mean (flying, banding, reach, defender, etc.) then you're pretty much set.
You remind me of someone I said goodbye to a long time ago.

It can be fun. there are many variations of the game. and depending on which format you choose to play, it affects which cards you can use. there are no banned cards(except cards with the ante rule). you can have any number of players you want in a game and the bigger the game the more insane it gets. i especially like cards in multi player that do life drain(each player loses X life and you gain that much). While i have recently decided to focus on yugioh and stop buying actual packs(2 tcgs gets expensive), i still buy the multi player cards for the Planes Chase and Archenemy variants. go to www.magicthegathering.com for more info.
btw, i have 4 magic decks: Treefolk(favorite) Vampire Grixxis(fast) Dolls(of the voodoo variety)
