This anime chick isn't really competition now is she? It could be that he's just at the stage where he's more interested in the idea of a girl than the actual girl, and still has a little growing up to do before he considers dating, I don't know, but it is possible to be into anime characters/TV characters/actors and still like real people better.
My best friend told my bf that I have a huge celebrity crush on the actor Ewan Mcgregor, and now he gets incredibly jealous whenever I mention the guy's name. It's kinda cute, but I really don't get it. I said to him, do you really think this guy is competition for you? I've never met him, he's 40 something years old, living in an entirely different country and married with kids!
