Harlequin
Golden bracelets, dangling earrings, and diamond rings,
All of which do not belong to her.
The woman behind the curtains,
Behind the mask, behind the smile; sadness
Escape through the window of her soul.
At first sight, happiness, the next--
Disgust.
Adorned with jewelry, disguises of love--
Unwanted.
Heated touches, a breathless kiss, an untouched passion--
Tainted.
One time, last time. Do you remember her name?
Unconditional.
Beauty lost by years, feelings lost by use,
She forgets herself in order live.
The Harlequin, the Beloved, the Unloved.

Before you say anything... I know harlequin means jester in the usual context, someone who entertains a court or whatnot. In this sense, it means "beloved." In normal poetry, the word takes this meaning over the usual denotation. razz
I wrote this on a whim, in the middle of English class... so I'm not making much of a statement towards anything. You can say I'm neither against nor for prostitution or things of the like. Sure, right off the bat, we can say it's wrong because the women are putting themselves out for men who can't keep their stuff in their pants, but when you think about it, some of these women don't have the choice of going to work at other jobs.
Anyway, I hope you liked it.
