Wishes are these things
Made from our own desires.
We wish for no sickness and world peace
We wish to be kings with squires.
Most wishes are made eagerly
From greed and longing and needs
These wishes don't ever seem to come true
And don't even grant you plastic beads.
Some wishes are formed by anger
Summoning demons of the Seven Hells.
Wishing ill-fortune upon some other
But we were mourning when they fell.
And there are wishes made
For someone else you know
Wanting healing, safety, and protection,
Thinking about friends, never foe.
When you wish, tell me,
Is it out of greed or out of spite?
Or is it simply a tender prayer
Hoping your love will be safe tonight?
Wish upon a star,
Wish on your birthday cake,
Blow the petals of a dandelion
And wish for someone else's sake.
