Maybe I'm weird, but I can't stand certain classic cartoons

You know what I hate about cartoons like Tom and Jerry or Sylvester and Tweety or Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner?

The carnivore is simply hungry, but the prey actually has malice towards it's enemy. Noooo... not simply enough to AVOID the predator, you have to abuse it in ways that defy the law of survival of the fittest. xp

I know what the joke is, but I don't get why it's funny.

I've actually never been much of a fan of the classic cartoons. Tom and Jerry was kind of 'meh' to me. I watched the occasional Bugs Bunny, got absolutely irritated with Donald Duck, so I just pretty much ignored older Looney Toons.

I always thought Jerry was a d**k, the roadrunner less so but still.

For some reason I always rooted for Daffy in the cartoons he'd appear in against Bugs....

I think Roadrunner was the only one I hated because it was so beyond illogical how much the Coyote failed.

I don't think I liked Tom & Jerry, but I think it was tolerable.
I didn't watch Sylvester & Tweety that much...

Is Ren & Stimpy on the classic level yet? Because that can definitely go down on the list of cartoons I looooooathe.

Different...Very.

I can't stand Cow and Chicken. I never seen such a vile cartoon all my life. I can muster Ren and Stimpy. I never cared for Scooby Doo, either.

Never liked Scooby Doo either, Ren and Stimpy was ok, but I was a kid and it was more amusing then. I thought Rocco's Modern Life was better.

I didn't care for roadrunner or tweety.
But some of the old looney tunes are hilarious. The ones with Daffy Duck just being an idiot: like when he's Robin Hood or Duck Dodgers.
I thought Ren and Stimpy was stupid.
I LOVED ahhh, real monsters. heart

For Sylvester and Wile, it's funny then and not funny now because back when they were first created, the mass population truly believed predators were evil pests. Back in Canada, they used to (and some still do illegally) hunt wolves by airplane in order to save the moose and deer (so humans could hunt them) and they told everyone it was for their protection (even though there's no recorded history of a healthy wolf ever attacking a human without provocation). I think you know what happened with the moose and deer after that. . . . We've all hear stories of "The Big Bad Wolf", but that gets repetitive so they used lions, bears, foxes, coyotes, ect. If it kills Bambi, it's EVIL! Thank god we're more educated.

As for Tom and Jerry, that has little to do with the normal Predator/prey relationship and more of a love/hate/discrimination relationship. Tom's "job" is to keep the house mouse free and Jerry is just trying to live in peace. Most of the time, Tom doesn't really want to eat Jerry, just hurt him or kill him to get rid of him. In several cartoons you can actually see them working together or even saving each other. Other times you'll notice their hate is shown as metaphors for wars and racism.

Personally, if I were you, I'd be more upset about This! (Pay attention around 2:20)

Survival of the fittest is actually a term for social evolution, it doesn't really apply to nature. I like when Tom and Jerry have to band together to watch a baby or protect a duckling.

Or the ones involving his little French nephew.

The coyote and the road runner were spoofs of nature documentaries, thus the scenes where everything freezes and shows the genus. The idea was watching the "graceful hunter" actually be kind of stupid and resort to insane tactics. I don't think you were actually supposed to hate the coyote
