Private Servers are a Rouge Programmers imitation of Maple Story

Maple SEA is a different version of maple story, Maple Story has many versions world wide, they are made so that they appeal to people in that region, like Maple Europe, Korean Maplestory, Hong Kong Maple, Basil. Each Version may have stuff others don't or may be lacking(Like Global(USA's version as well as every other part of the world that does not have a version.) has NLC and Crimsonwood Keep, though Korean maple story does not(Although it has the new Aran Class, and no other version has it yet.)

If you don't know about it, you're probably in Global.
Global is where you should be if that's where you've BEEN at.

Kite Katolia has basically explained it.

The SEA stands for South East Asia. It is just another version of Maple that appeals to the players in the Asia area, that's not HK, Korea or Japan. The gameplay is in English.
It is also, more older than Global, being about 5 patches ahead.
When you register for an account, you need to type in some National ID. Unless you live in the SEA area, I'd recommend you stay with the region you are. But incase you are, the Maple SEA website.

And another thing.
Maple SEA is to Global but not to Private Servers, other than the point that they are both Maple Story in general.

Just think of it as Nexon's way are tailoring maplestory version X to country/region X. With X being any version and the corresponding region/country.
