Well, I was reading in Proverbs 14 and read over this verse a couple times.
I still am kind of confused as to what it's supposed to mean. Does "poor" refer
to poor in spirit, poor in faith, poor in wealth, etc. ? I mean, initially I thought it
to be wealth, which lead me to think that the Bible always talks about how being
poor is not a bad thing and that the wealthy are worse off.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

"The poor are shunned even by their neighbors,
but the rich have many friends." Proverbs 14:20

I believe that here, "poor" is leaning more towards one's spiritual status. Are they upright and walking with the Lord?

I'm actually gonna have to disagree and say that is means poor in belongings and valuable possessions.

At first, the verse seems a little random and out of place, but I think it's meant to be understood in conjunction with the following verse:

He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy.

I think what it's trying to say is that yeah, everyone stays away from the poor, but doing that is wrong, and blessed is the person who doesn't do what others do and consorts only with the popular rich people.

That's just my interpretation of it.
