Seeds of Stone

I've sown my garden with seeds of stone
to flourish under the sun
They wait in cover of dark soil, to be among the sky
Till days grow short and stars freeze the night
To be among the heavens

The garden seeds grow slower still, than I thought them to
All around the green in pale, gives way to white and gray
The stones are still, await the night where they will finally show
The shattered sky of stones and soil hangs heavy, still, above

My hands are covered, crescent moons under nails of dirt
To dig these seeds of stone, that have not borne their fruit
Disappointment rings so true, in the eveing air
What I thought would reach the sky, instead has not shown through

The stones I held from frozen earth, cold upon my plams
Wither as I bring them to my heart, myself, all gone
Broken glass of nightly stars, watching over head
I bring my seeds to the ground, where there is newly green

Place them there, gently, cover with thawing earth
From where I held the frozen seeds, the cold gives way to warmth
I've sown my garden with seeds of stone
To flourish under the sun
