Adequate and respectful cultural appropriation?

As some of you may know (honestly doubt many will though sweatdrop ) Frucor, the producers of the energy drink "V" recently started a new line of energy drinks called, simply, "Samedi" after Baron Samedi.

Now, instead of just using the title, the company went in a rather...rare direction. They got in touch with a respectable well-known (so I've been told) Mambo, and went straight to the source to see if it was ok to use the name.

(More on the details here)

So, what's your opinion on all of this? ninja

I don't know that "cultural appropiation" is the correct term here.

Whatever it is, I think they're doing this the right way. If the people whose culture they are using in their product are agreeable to this and indeed are being compensated along with the entity that they are invoking in their drink, I don't see a problem.

Seems pretty awesome actually. I might give it a try.

I really gotta hand it to these guys. I respect what they did a lot.
It fits perfectly with the theology. It fits with the traditions.

As for the drink itself, it's one drink I won't give my husband. But that's because while I respect the Loa, I'm not going to invite them over for dinner.

I love the hell out of the ads. Am I the only one seeing parts of his veve throughout them?

Yeah, the first poster was pretty obvious, but after that it was more subtle, but I could still, well, 'spot the veve.'

Gotta give it to the Baron, he sure knows how to throw a party.
Regardless of anything else, there is a god who knows how to kick it up.
He's almost too wild for any party I would host.
But mighty amounts of respect. 3nodding
