Are you friends, like, have you talked to him before? If you do you could always ask him just as friends, or do something casual like, "I'll meet you there," or "save a dance for me,"
That way if he does want to ask someone else, you can still have some time with him. Maybe he'll realize you are more fun than this other girl.
