I need advice about a guy situation.

To make a long story short, here is the situation:

I've known this guy for almost three years, but only online.
We care about one another and I truly do trust him.
He wants to send me a promise ring, kind of to prove and show that he really does want to wait for me,
and have a real, a serious relationship with me.

We've chatted on the phone once.
He at a family member's house, and I on my cell phone.

He knows the state that I live in, my home school, the fact that I attend classes at a local technical college,
and because we are friends on both Facebook and Myspace,
he could probably deduct from my friends the area in which I live.

I really don't need material things to know that he cares about me,
but he really wants to send me a promise ring.

He understands if I am uncomfortable with giving him the information he would need to do so.

I'm just confused, I guess.

I'm still a minor, and my parents still open every package and letter I recieve whether it be from a college or whatever.

I have yet to tell them about him, or fill them in on the situation, and he knows this and that I do not plan on doing so any time soon.
At least, not until I am 18 and they can no longer direct my life.

So, the thing I need advice about, I guess, is the situation in general.
What should I do?
Should I give him my information?
Should I just further explain to him that it is not a good idea, or that I am not entirely ready for that,
although I do want to have a serious relationship with him when the time comes?
Do I really need to fill my parents in on every aspect of my life?

My answer is that you should just explain to him and tell him to wait. since your parents open your stuff it wouldn't be a good idea. 3yrs is a long time but you guys should be talking on the phone wayyyy more often...*my opinion* no matter what don't give him your info till your ready.

You do have a good point there.

I believe that may be what I will do.
Just explain the situation to him again, and ask if maybe we could talk on the phone more often,
even if just for certain occassions.

I agree with Meleny. My mom would kill me if she knew I've gotten a package from someone on Gaia. o__o;;
BUT it wasn't sent to my house, so... xD She doesn't know.

My gaia friend went to see An Cafe live in California last year, and he knows I am a CRAZY fan of theirs. I mean, obsessively. xD So he actually bought me a copy of Gokutama Rock Cafe and asked if I wanted him to send it to me. I reallyreallyreally wanted it, and finally a friend of mine who gets a lot of junk mail offered to let him send it to her house then give it to me at school. And he included the ticket used to get in to the concert, tooo~ *owes him for life* XD
Anyways, the point to that... >>;;
If you decide that you don't want to wait(I think waiting's a good idea though), you could ask a friend if they'll let you have it sent to them. =w=;;
Waiting and talking more often sounds like a good idea to me though. xD

Haha. She wouldn't know it was from an online friend.
She would just open a package addressed to me with a ring inside.
Then, she would probably freak out and drill me for the facts. lol
I could lie to her, but I absolutely hate lying especially to my mother.

I believe I will wait, but that is a good idea.
I do not have many friends who would be able to do such a thing for me.
The ones who would do such a thing for me, I would not trust to deliver the package to me. xD

I will definitely work on talking to him more frequently in a more direct sense, if that is possible for him. <3

i do understand what you're feeling here, but love is a fairly significant aspect. as a whole, this is no small detail. you may not be comfortable letting them know about everything, but they should at least know what's happened. just that you have a friend on the internet who you plan on meeting in the future.

I understand. It certainly isn't something insignificant.
It's not like I want to hide him, or anything.
It would be best to let at least my mother know. <3

If he lives close to you, meet him somewhere (NOT ALONE NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRUST HIM), plus, if your friends are there with you and him, it will make it easier.
Don't give him info until you're ready. Hey, if you want, you could give him (if a friend was cool with that), a friends adress, ofcourse you would tell him it wasn't your home. this way, the parent problem is gone and you don't have to worry about him knowing your personal info too soon.

Have him send a package to a friend's house maybe, or just to a post-office where you could walk by and pick it up. Your parents might notice the package, but if you can avoid that part, you can have the ring without having to lie or them knowing.

I talked to him about it and we've decided just to wait.
I'll be going away to college after one more year here.

We'll take it slow, just friends, then a few dates, then dating, etc.
If everything works out, that is. x3
