I love Tim Burton, mostly because his movies are so different.

Darren Aronofsky is probably the best director in modern cinema, hands down. He's not put a foot wrong once, and his films shock consistently, because he's had some actors I find irritating or untalented, and gotten a wonderful performance from them.

1.Quentin Tarentino
2.Robert Rodriguez
3.Tim Burton
4.Steven Speilberg
5.Tommy Lee Wallace
and many more but those are my top five!!!

Personally, my favorite director is Quentin Tarantino. Sure, it's a cliched answer, but it were his films that got me really interested in film, so I have to give him credit.
That being said, I think the best director working today would have to be either Eastwood, Scorcese, or Spielberg (I'd love to place Woody Allen in that group, but Scoop was a disaster). Say what you want about the Hollywood system crashing into the abyss, but you cannot deny that these three men have crafted a solid body of work within the last 20 or 30 years.
