I just finished painting a cape, looks pretty cool, based with foundation black, layer of mixed black white 70/30, another layer this time black white 30/70, then finally white to finish it off.
i put it down and thought "y'know what would look cool? a dark red trim"

i started thinking about how id go about it, but the only think i could think of that i know would work would to be just paint black where i want that trim, then start dry brushing on layers of red. but the problem is, i dont think id be able to keep the red on the black trim, while making it look good/natural.
i then remembered in like grade 2 we would use crayon, or a wax candle, and rub that where we didnt want the paint to stick, then peel the wax off after (or later in like grade 11 we had this clear stuff that didnt need to be peeled off, it flaked off when it was heated)

so, my question, would it work if i melted some wax, then used the non-bristle end of a brush to dab the wax on to cover the white. and be able to peel that wax off 1. without too much trouble. and 2. without peeling paint off?

im asking in case someone here knows alot about wax or something, or if anyone has tried this.

lol. after i finished typing this up i figured id see what i could find on Google
i basically mean this except swap the colors, red trim, white inside.

that link was not the kind of model i was expecting!


anyway, yeah, i like the cape idea, although melting wax isnt a good idea... you could try that art stuff that does the same thing (it's some form of liquid wax in a bottle, you only need a drop of it) however, as messyart said, GW paints wear off easily, so all that work building up the layers would be screwed... i suggest using a test model 1st

mmmm... i do have a wide flat brush

but im kinda concerned about ruining the consistency of the drybrushed/finished look...

as for the "art wax" i think i may look into that, even if i dont use it for said model.
