That probably is why. You like having control over your own thoughts, actions, and self. Substances and some emotions can change all that, you'd be losing control.

Do you also not like the idea of dependance/interdependance?

I don't want to be dependent on anyone because I can't trust anyone to be there for me when I need them, so I depend on myself because I've always been there.

The only problems it makes for me are because other people want it, not directly because I don't.

I don't want to be dependent on anyone because I can't trust anyone to be there for me when I need them, so I depend on myself because I've always been there.

Being dependant upon others just seems like it could potentially be a very dangerous situation, so I'd rather just take care of myself.
