This is a companion thread to the other "Creating New Pokemon For Fun" thread, found here: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=13451141

This thread works much in the same way as the other one, save for one major difference. All the pokemon made in this thread will be made as a cooperative effort.
Like the other thread, this is entirely a thought experiment where we will create fictional pokemon for a fictional region of the pokemon world (suggestions for the name of said region, plox?). ^^
Also unlike the previous thread, here we will start with the starter pokemon, in order. Grass, Fire, and last Water. Then we will go on to a few common types (i.e. the fictional regions versions of Pidgey/Starly and Ratatta/Bidoof). As they will give us a good feel on how to create pokemon. ^^

As with the previous thread, we will use the following template while creating the pokemon:

Name:
Classification:
Type 1:
Type 2:
Ability:
Height:
Weight:
Weaknesses:
Resistances:
Immunities:
Base Happiness:
Evolutions (if any):

Level . . . . . . Attack . . . . . . Type . . . . . . Category.

Sound good? Let's start. ^^

I'll start the first pokemon, I will update the post when we settle on an aspect of the pokemon. ^^

Name: (Twiglet??? Twig+Piglet)
Classification:
Type 1: Grass
Type 2: -
Ability: Overgrow
Height:
Weight:
Weaknesses: Fire (x2), Ice (x2), Poison (x2), Flying (x2), Bug (x2),
Resistances: Water (x0.5), Electric (x0.5), Grass (x0.5), Ground (x0.5)
Immunities: -
Base Happiness: 70
Evolutions (if any): (Brushog, Brush+Hog) lvl ?,

Level . . . . . . Attack . . . . . . Type . . . . . . Category.

There we go, lets make a pokemon. ^^

Well, as any starter, it would be likely that it would have Tackle/Pound and Growl.
Vine Whip/Razor Leaf would be a decent early, say first or second, move to learn. Or, if you think that it one of those would be a later level move, 11-14 maybe, Absorb could be used as the first move learned, say 7-9?

Vinewhip could work as an early move, around level 8 or so as it isn't all that powerful (base power 35). So it would look something like:

- - Tackle
4 - Growl
8 - Vinewhip
12 - ? (cotton spore perhaps? Defensive curl?)

Looks good. I think Cotton Spore may be the better of the two, but either or, really.
What's your take on Powders/Spores? If any, I would go with Spore over Sleep Powder. Stun Spore, maybe? And what about healing moves, such as Ingrain or Leech Seed? I mean, if it gets any, later on Synthesis could be a move.

- Tackle
4 - Growl
8 - Vinewhip
12 - ? (cotton spore perhaps? Defensive curl?)
16- Spore and/or Stun Spore

or maybe a damaging move

- Tackle
4 - Growl
8 - Vinewhip
12 - ? (cotton spore perhaps? Defensive curl?)
16 - Bullet Seed or Magical Leaf?

I was thinking something like razor leaf on level 16, but bullet seed could work as well. I think Magical Leaf is a little to powerful a move to put on level 16 since it ignores evasion.

So, it's looking a little something like this:

- Tackle
4 - Growl
8 - Vinewhip
12 - Cotton Spore
16- Bullet Seed / Razor Leaf

Keeping with tradition, that's about the level it would evolve, and it gets a move the first stage wouldn't learn. Any idea if the evo will have a sub type?

I think that the last move every stage learns should be decided, that way you can better determine levels for other moves.

Say, Twiglett learns Leaf Storm at level 48 (I'm going on a move about every 4 levels, if you hadn't noticed). Going with that, you can figure the last stage should learn Leaf Storm at about level 60ish.

I was thinking about us making it a grass/dark type. Water could then become a water/fighting type, and fire would become fire/psychic. That way each starter has a strength and a weakness against each other.

Bite could work on level 16. It is a little earlier than Turtwig, but as an attack it is about average for that level (base damage 60, slight chance of secondary effect). Else we can take Bullet Seed on level 16 and Bite on level 20.

Well, seeing as how it already has a grass type attack, I think we should go with bite, giving it a little more type coverage early on.
Question. If the starter is Grass, and the evolution will be Grass/Dark, are you going to have fairly different moves for the two? That's to say, Twiglett gets bite, but it wouldn't learn Crunch, but the evo would learn Crunch. Just wondering, because that would make a difference in the choice of which moves to consider giving it.

Also, I like how you picked the main/sub type. It's an interesting take. ^^

Thanks.

Crunch could work well for the evolved form, while skipping it for the base form.

I was also thinking that we could give the base form a couple of moves that it won't learn in its evolved forms. Specifically, I was thinking it could learn Covet and Charm as twiglet but not as brushog.

Here's my idea of a fire starter (Although it starts as a rock, its evolutions will eventually become a fire-type pokemon.)
Name: Gwarm (Golem+warm+worm)
Classification: Rock Maggot
Type 1: Rock
Type 2: Bug
Ability: Sturdy
Height: 200 cm
Weight: 50 kg
Weaknesses: Water, Earth, Ice.
Resistances: Psychic, Flying, Fire,
Immunities: -
Base Happiness: 50
Evolutions (if any):
Coleup.......lvl 18
Sundry.......lvl 37

Level . . . . . . Attack . . . . . . Type . . . . . . Category
.....................Rollout............Rock.............Physical
.....................Sandattack......normal..........???????
lvl. 9 .............. Ember...........Fire..............????????
lvl. 13............. Rock throw....Rock.............????????
lvl. 18............. Fury Cutter....Bug..........????????
lvl. 25............. Sandstorm.....ground..........????????
lvl. 30..............Dig................Ground.........????????
lvl. 34..............megahorn.....Bug............????????
lvl.35...............Flame Thrower..Fire...........????????
lvl.40............... Earth Power.....Ground.......???????

Not bad, but it really belongs in the other thread linked up top. ^^

Good start...

The ability however... I think it should have an ability that gives it a second type depending on the weather effect.

For example, if Sunny Day is in effect it should become flying/fire. Rain Dance = Flying/Water, Hail = Flying/ice, Sandstorm = Flying/Rock, and so on. Deep Fog should make it Flying/Ghost. ^^

Which reminds me: New attack:

Name - type - category - PP - attack - accuracy - effect

Deep Fog - (ghost or flying) - Other - 5 - none - none - changes weather to deep fog (reduces base accuracy by 25%).
