My friend and I just tried to figure out Buddhism.
I dunno if we got anywhere close, but this is what we ended up with:

Buddhists are like hardcore gamers who aren't allowed to be hardcore because they use strategy guides, except they keep having to use the strategy guide over and over because they keep forgetting to save every time they stop playing the game.

It's a bit of a gaming analogy in terms of religion, I guess?
It all started with how we figured that becoming Buddha was like reaching LVL 99 with your stats maxed out.
And my friend figured that once you hit max enlightenment, you become a Buddha.
And since Buddhists are trying to reach enlightenment...

Oh, I dunno.

You should go to a temple and ask a monk.
Remember to take off your shoes.

But, I really don't know. I'm only part Buddhist because my dad said I was.

o:
Cookie, you don't go to temple?
Like, how do Korean People have a funeral?
Do you like call in a priest or a Buddhist monk?

Well yeah, when going into temple, when you have to get down on your knees and pray, you needs to take off your shoes.
Even when I like go to family friends, all Viet, we must take off our shoes inside the house.

Well, I also have no objection when being a Buddhist.
I don't need to go to temple unless someone, that I know or family friend knows, dies.
I can celebrate any holiday.
;D
And I don't have to go to like Church on Sundays or anything.

=w=;
Well, they're not that violent. :>
No bloodshed, not disembodiment, nada!

&Tilly~
Well, I'm no good with percentages but I'm pretty sure that the majority of Korean people are either Buddhist or Christian.
My family, for one thing, is Christian.
I go to Church every Sunday and on (some) religious holidays.

...But we still take off our shoes inside the house.
It's an Asian thing. I wonder why? XD;

If you have like wood or tile flooring in your house, Cookie.
I think we take off our shoes because we don't want to mop the floors to get rid of the foot prints. D;
And feeling the cool tile floor or wooden floor feels good.

Very spiritual. Buddhism teaches respect, harmony and a lot of the virtues that society values today. However, in some cases, some Buddhists are not aware of their rights and get bullied.

A group of male Buddhists holding power tend to abuse women. They're Buddhist, alright. But they haven't followed the TRUE teachings very well. Buddhism also implies some discrimination against gay people. Dalai Lama isn't very popular with that.

Well, I don't think there's a particularly concrete definition of "TRUE teachings".
There are always denominations of the major religions in regards to how religious teachings are interpreted.
But what I want to know is, what is a Buddhist's GOAL at the end of his/her life? (or many lives, however it is)
Once they get enlightened and all, what happens?
LVL 99 or whut!?

I'm a mega homophobe neutral

I sometimes wonder if I should become a buddist.
Or believe in a god.
But, I'm unsure whether god exists.
Maybe all the gods exist.
Is there a religion that believes in all the gods?

User Image
Not as far as I know, no.
Perhaps there is a religion in which many gods share the characteristics of gods in other religions, but I don't think there can be a belief in "all the gods".
There are always points in religions where they will clash, making it impossible to believe both.

Uh... nirvana? Buddhism has something about rebirth.

You're right about what "true" teachings are; it's hard to determine! Islam, for example, is dictated by the Qur'an. However, the Qur'an can't decide people's actions, opinions, and values for them, and it can be modified by the fatwa (government) in accordance with their laws and such. The original changes overtime, and respect for each other could turn into abuse and discrimination because they've deviated so far from what the very first, orginial scriptures dictate.

You can look that up on the Internet or reference books in the library if you're interested. I can't know more than they do. wink
