The wraparound jacket band on the third volume of Ajiko Kojima's Tonari no 801 chan manga has announced that the otaku comedy story will be adapted into anime in 2009. The book appears on the boople online bookstore in Japan. The original four-panel Tonari no 801 chan manga blog explores the comical trials and tribulations of an adult fujoshi (an otaku of boys-love stories) and her hapless otaku boyfriend.
Ohzora Publishing Co. published the manga in two earlier volumes that have sold 320,000 copies. There have already been a live-action drama adaptation staring The Prince of Tennis musical's Kōji Seto and a shōjo manga re-imagining in Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend magazine.
