Okay so here I am late at night and I am on my computer and watching TV. Now just a bit ago. I saw something that made my jaw drop to the floor, and it stayed down there for quite a while. What did I see?

I saw what they used to do with Gays to "un gay" them.

They would connect electric currents (through rings that had cords on them) and they would show the men pornographic pictures, then they would SHOCK the men so they wouldn't get sexually aroused.

After hearing this, my face looked like this: eek
10 mins later: eek
As I am typing this: eek eek eek

So yeah. Just a bit of a rant. I mean I'm a girl and all but just seeing it on screen. The guy, the rings, the pictures, and the volt meter measuring thing going up as each picture popped up.

I. was. simply. horrified.

That's homophobia and/or fundamentalist Christians for you. >.<

There's not much we can do, really. sweatdrop It seems their hate/fear of homosexuals is instilled deep in their subconscious, and they try everything they can to get rid of homosexuality... *shrugs*

But I was sure if I saw/read anything like that, I'd be disgusted. gonk

That's scary. Like Clockwork Orange scary.

That's inhumane.

It was and is legal, what she watched was probably a documentary on shock therapy. Back in the 50's (I think it started in the fifties) being homosexual was still classified as a mental illness and shock therapy was the most overused and misunderstood form of trying to "cure" mental illness ranging from what she saw with it being used as conditioning to being just a form of punishment for unruly ward patients. Shock therapy can be useful with actual mental illness, but of course, homosexuality isn't a mental illness, so the use of it as classical conditioning is absurd.

However, I don't think it's still used unless someone volunteers for it. As said before, shock therapy is still legal and is used in practice, though not usually in a conditioning settings and more in a reworking-the-brain's-electricity setting, like with trying to lessen depression, but they give you muscle relaxers beforehand so you don't have the violent fits that accompanied people who had it in the fifties.

That is inhuman. De-gay people? Don't think that's even possible. And use shock waves to do so? Even worse. And even though I do know how helpful shock therapy can be (heart failures, blah blah blah), it's just not right to use it on a 'patient' that is unwilling to be 'treated' that way.

I understand that this is a little late, but I would really like to add to this rant. You see, the process is called Aversion Therapy. It has been around for a long time. You know, I waited until I was 22 to come out of the closet.
You see, I actually was going to come out when I was about 13, but I saw famous court case on it in the 90's when the true light of something came out to the media. I have kind of written an essay on it in my myspace and I will add a copy of it in another post right after this.

I know most people have never heard of this. But it is a grave reality that hits too close to home. A lot of people think that living in the Bible Belt is a wonderful and safe choice. I am afraid that any religion taken to the extreme is a bad thing. I truly believe that. I myself am a Christian and Gay. After reading this I find myself embarrassed of the first and even more proud of the second. Please follow the Links after the explanation below.

The first is of a case in which most probably won't remember. This was my first introduction into the subject and I think everyone needs to know.
http://www.petertatchell.net/psychiatry/aversion.htm

The second is a more recent explaination of aversion therapy and some of the measures they have and are rumored to have taken.

I hope you now understand the battle we are fighting everyday. This is no longer isolated in the region I live in. It has currently spread world wide and is more secretive than ever. Please copy this and email this to as many people you can. Emagine yourself a lost teen looking for guidance and finding the destruction behind this door.

Its not as fun as the movie "But I'm a Cheerleader" makes it seem. The un-gay treatments are really kind of horrendous and stupid (I.E. the straight camps).
