Hi-

I thought it might help some people know about some art movements & techniques, therefore, enhancing their vocabulary and making them aware of their passion. Although it wont go too deep into the subjects, it would be enough to pick your curiosity and let you decide if you want to try a new technique.

-Thank You

Pointillism

History
A technique related to divisionism, first systematically applied by French painter GEORGES SEURAT (1859-1891) in his La Grande Jatte (1886). Pointillism is a style of painting in which small distinct points of primary colors create the impression of a wide selection of secondary and intermediate colors. This method thereby achieved more luminous color and ensured a more controlled handling of tone.

Common use
It is often used to create detailed artwork in either canvas and/or paper. However, it is now used in school to teach the color ring and the use of the primary colors (Blue Yellow and Red) to create new colors, also, to determine the difference of light and shadow.

How it's done

In color
Use the Primary colors to obtain a gradients of light and shadow as well as secondary colors. More and bigger dots make darker and colorful gamut, less and smaller, makes lighter and brighter. To obtain colors like green, combine Yellow and Blue together.1

In Black and white
The same rule applies, except we wont see color. More and bigger dots makes dark/Shadows. Less and smaller dots makes Light/brightness. 2

Art Deco

History
An art movement involving a mix of modern decorative art styles, largely of the 1920s and 1930s, whose main characteristics were derived from various avant-garde painting styles of the early twentieth century. Art deco works exhibit aspects of Cubism, Russian Constructivism and Italian Futurism-- with abstraction, distortion, and simplification, particularly geometric shapes and highly intense colors--celebrating the rise of commerce, technology, and speed.

The growing impact of the machine can be seen in repeating and overlapping images from 1925; and in the 1930s, in streamlined forms derived from the principles of aerodynamics.

The name came from the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs Industriels et Modernes, held in Paris, which celebrated living in the modern world.

It was popularly considered to be an elegant style of cool sophistication in architecture and applied arts which range from luxurious objects made from exotic material to mass produced, streamlined items available to a growing middle class.

Common use
Art Deco is mainly used for architectures and furnituring, although many people often uses it, combined with Gothic normally, for modern and suspense/action feelings in art works.

How it's done

Art Deco is made by introducing mathematically geometric shapes in a elegant symmetric, and often, colorful design. Everything perfectly balanced or aligned and their colors should be mostly bright and attentive.

History
Art movements from early 90s, Cubism begun with Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. They were greatly inspired by African sculpture, , and by the Fauves.

Common use
It is mainly considered abstract art. It disassembles an idea and reforms it in a poetic vision of geometrical proportions.

How it's done

In Cubism the subject matter is broken up, analyzed, and reassembled in an abstracted form. Usually, cubism emphasize in recognized details and distort the image which can be made up by the human mind.
