What defines beauty in Asia?

I'm doing a high school senior project on different standards of beauty, including what is seen as most beautiful in Asian cultures. Could anyone answer what is seen as beautiful in Asia? Like what hair type, skin tone, eye shape, overall face type/shape, and body type is viewed as most attractive towards men and women? Also, it would be very helpful to get input on how some Asian cultures view the looks of other ethnicities, like Caucasian, African, and Hispanic, and how standards of beauty differ in different countries of Asia.

Please remember this is not about put downs, and that EVERYONE is beautiful.

Chinese people tend to view beauty as [& this is according to what I've noticed]:

- light skin
- flawless skin
- oval face
- pretty hands
- medium height
- skinny

I know for most Japanese ppl it's-

hair type: jet black and straight or in foreigners blond
skin tone: very pale
eye shape: oval but open (not too squinty)
face type/shape: round
body type: petit (for girls... and guys?)

for east asians and southeast asians:
Pale skin, for serious.
almond shaped eyes (not "squinty")

for south asians:
light skin (also)
light colored eyes

I don't agree with the jet black hair thing.
Sooo many asians dye their hair.

Light skin.
A friend of mine visited Japan just very recently, and she said it was a great place (I want to go! ;- wink .
But she was also sad to notice that a lot of the female youth there dressed like "Americans": long non-black extensions for their hair, corrective feet gear to make them taller, and white plates in their faces to make their cheekbones higher.
The latter two is more predominant for Japanese models (like in magazines).

It's just unfortunate, because Japanese girls are very beautiful their own way.

personally, i find light-colored eyes on Asians really pretty. *jealous* XD

for women:

.long, ebony black hair

.moonlight pale, porcelain skin (IT'S A MUST TOO, that's why there's so many whitening skin products out there, both healthy and dangerous. If you're not too careful with which products are fake and which are not, tsk tsk too bad. Although East Asians and particularly Northern Chinese will have an easier time with this and don't need much whitening product)
intense colored eyes; any eye color but the basic dark brown

.oval face

.large eyes

.slender body

.small feet

.small-to-medium sized breasts



The only things that I don't agree on this list are the small feet and slender body. I could care less about shoe size and am pretty much tired of having to find a size in Japan that fits my foot (I'm a U.S. size 9, but I don't think I've seen much shoes in Japan that fit my foot size). also I'm tired of seeing slender bodies everywhere, especially the super skinny, anorexic like ones too. That's just disgusting. Curvy, yet still within the right body mass range, is more like it (like those Asian import models, lol)!

I also like a good toned, dancer-like body. I'm tired of seeing flabby arms even though if girls are already skinny enough. Skinny yeah sure, but your arms are still flab unless you work out those too-tender muscles. Flat stomach, yea sure, but where's the ABS!?


As for guys...hmm no one really considers guys much these days, lol. But I think the majority would be:

.guys must have that cool Asian hair cut (like the ones you see in visual kei J-rock bands, K-pop singers, etc.)
.must have cool clothing style (same reason for the parenthesis above)
.tall
.beautiful, peachy eyes (I mean 'peachy' by...like say, the Korean eyes, such as Rain's eyes, lol)
.lean, yet good toned muscle body
.no body hair on chest. not sure about legs though, lol XD;
.light skin


oh yeah and for both sexes, there's the double eyelids and long, curled eyelashes. Fortunately I'm alreayd born with that. XD There are a good handful of Asians out there that are already born with double-lids; I even have some friends of mine that are born double-lided.

Unfortunately I'm not born with long, curled eyelashes, so It's eyelash curler and mascara time for me!

oh yeah and pointy nose too. but not too pointy so that it starts to look like a crow's beak XD;

A lot of Asian people think people beautiful in many ways.

Such as...(For Women)

- Long straight silky hair
- Lean figure
- Average height
- Skin color
- Style of clothing
- Round Face
- Big lips
- Long fingers
- Size of their feet (In the old days)
- Long eyelashes
- Eye color
- Model looking

Such as...(For Men)

- Lean figure
- Tall
- Tan Skinned
- Abs
- No body hair
- Strong arms and legs
- Style of clothing
- Hair style
- Piercings (One or two EAR piercings; nothing to fancy)

well, i think japanese women have to show beauty and grace, like at tea ceremonies. You have to be balanced and slow and graceful and beautiful.

i watched my sister do a practice on tea ceremonies with my mom. LOL. xd
