I teach private piano and guitar lessons. I also accompany our junior high choirs, and sometimes teach songs during sectionals (soprano, alto, etc.) Just wondering if anyone else out there teaches choir, band, or lessons!

I'm going to be a teacher. Any tips you can give me about teaching?

Get a mentor - someone already in the field who's willing to share advise. I assume you'll be a band director - since you have a band guild banner?
Unfortunately, my other advise is more on the practical side. If you'll be teaching in the public schools, I'd get a teachable minor, in case they make any cuts in the music department. Our school's music department (K-12) has cut 2 music teachers in the past 5 or 6 years.

Teaching theory is HARD - I try to relate it to pieces they're playing, and point out how much better they'll be at learning pieces once they understand theory, but it's still hard to get them motivated!
