Anyway, I do believe there is a sticky on how to take good pictures of models; it's not the camera, you're just letting it focus on the background.

No it isnt. Hold the model farther away like you did in the image that has an obviouse flash (the second one), and perhaps not use the flash, but a good light source in the room.
Should come out much better. Dont blame your camera for your own personal brand of fail.

Camera is broken I'll try to snake one from a friend to get a better couple of pictures and EFG you are correct.

It's not just the camera, it's where it's focussing. Just put a close backdrop on your model, and hold the model a bit farther back, and it should come out better, if imperfect.
And I'd comment more on the model if I could see it better. sweatdrop
