1. Kind of a trick question. You can only run into Pidgey's and Ratata's in the beginning of the game, but once your able to surf you can surf south to a patch of grass and run into a few pokemon. So...Pidget, Ratata, and Tangela

3. There is no episode titled "The Great Race." That's the title of the 11th volume of the anime, however, and it contains the episode. The episode involving the race is "The Flame Pokemon-Athon." I had to go watch it to figure it out, but Pikachu rides on Squirtle (And now the prize makes sense!)

I feel like such a pokemon geek now.......
