Sinister Kung Fu

And yet you say shock rock, because of its heavy reliance on shocking lyrics, often with highly sexualized content and a style that has extremes ranging from the original Manson look to Gwar, is a non-genre?
Gwar is not "shock rock", they're thrash metal.

Because you decided it to be a non-Genre... despite me probably being into alternative music, longer then most people here... so know for a fact its a genre, because I was around during its prime, when it was known as shock rock.
Don't make baseless claims you can't back up. What? Did you start listening to Marilyn Manson in 2001? rolleyes I was listening to "alternative" music before you were even born. I guarantee I'm older than you. In other words, you're only 20. You're still a baby. STFU.
I'm not saying shock rock is not an accurate description, I'm saying it's not a genre.
You were around during it's "prime"? How old were you in 1972?. rolleyes
It's been used to describe everyone from Screamin Jay Hawkins, to The Who, to David Bowie to The New York Dolls, to GG Allin to pretty much anyone who does something a little out of the norm. There are almost NO musical similarities between any of those artists, which is the main requirement for something to be part of a genre.

Your argument has no point, no validity, it consists of, a genre can't be defined by its look, in which case then, why isn't Visual Kei, just called J-Rock and isn't Glam just called Rock and Roll?... let me guess... and this is probably gonna be an accurate one, because either this is the first time you've heard of shock rock, or because Wikipedia (something anybody can adjust and edit) says so.
Don't be such a condescending douchebag, just because you can't stand to be proven wrong. Everything I've said is 100% valid. Just because you're too ignorant to know any better does not invalidate my argument in the slightest.
Visual Kei is not a genre. Sure, the music encompasses part of it, but it's predominately about the costumes, and exists outside of the bands themselves. There are entire districts in Japan (Harajuku ring any bells here?) where this can be seen. It's more of an artistic and fashion movement, which just happened to be popularized by a few bands. And most people DO call it j-rock (which also is not a real genre btw).
Yeah, this would be a good time to mention my mother is one of the original goths and I was brought up from birth on this sort of music. I mean come on? Do you really think anyone who got into alternative music after 2001 even knows who Max Cavellera is, let alone the fact he was former front man for Sep... or who Celtic Frost are, or that Limp Bizkit are not the founders of Rap Metal, or that System of a Down used to be majorly about drugs.
I'd like to point out the key word I used which is 'probably', I was brought up on this music, I have the musical knowledge of about 20 people I can call on at will, just because you don't believe shock rock to be a genre, doesn't mean it isn't.
You know what, screw it, I'm not having this debate, I'm not resorting to name calling like you did, I'm gonna take the high ground and end it here, believe what you want, I don't care anymore, no sense arguing with those who aren't open to discussion, who miss key points there opponent makes and who twists around words and meanings to suit their own agenda. So believe what ever the hell you want I've had enough of this whole 'genre exists/doesn't exist' bullshit argument. So take it as a victory or whatever, cos I just don't care anymore.
