TeaDidikai Collowrath No honey on the porridge? sad That would make me a sad boy if I had to have my porridge with no honey. Not if you're vegan. wink Concessions accepted. Just as a point of reference, I went through a period when I was vegetarian because the feeling of flesh between my teeth was like nails on a chalk board. I grew out of it, but during my time as a vegetarian I devoted a fair amount of study as to why idiots kept calling me a hypocrite for being vegetarian while still coveting my precious leather sandals. Pasco/Avo/Lacto/Vegan etc, and the politics that get lumped in with them tend to be a hot button, especially when it gets preachy and people make assumptions. I often get accused of not being a "real" vegetarian because I'd rather see the meat and dairy industries reformed instead of doing away with them. Or because I'm not a vegetarian for health or animal rights reasons. Or because I've been known to cook meat for my family. Or because blah blah blah. Sigh.
ETA: Okay, the no health reasons is a lie. Meat and meat byproducts do make me pretty ill; depending on how much I've ingested, I get what looks pretty similar to an allergic reaction. But if I cared to and reintroduced it slowly, I could probably add fish and poultry to my diet without a problem.

Illiezeulette Recursive Paradox Violet Song jat Shariff So....can you (or anyone) explain to me how having my Toby-dog is exploiting or otherwise harming him? Seems like a load of bullshit to me. So I guess I'd like an explanation too. this is the abolitionist stance on pets/animal companions. Sixth one down from the top.
His comparisons to the slaves in the 1840's is a false analogy. He needs to establish that common pet animals have the same level of sentience and self determination as human beings before he can compare pets to human slaves.
He's also citing neuroses in pets that are purely anecdotal as a reason for claiming that they are in a bad situation in domestication.
So basically, it's a bunch of fallacious garbage.

I mean, I can justify domestication pretty easily: We're smarter than they are and we taught them to do s**t that is beneficial to us. They were there. We needed s**t done. It was a matter of practicality.
And this our world/animal world bullshit is just asinine. We are part of the animal world. We always have been. There is no seperation.
