Welcome back, Lil_Jo ~ hope things settle down soon from the big move.
*Pokes mAOri waHIne* Good to see you, too. Getting in my online time took somewhat of a back seat, but hopefully I'll get more time in.
Big hugs all round to all of you. heart

I'm glad to hear Lil Jo survived her move.
Currently, I just survived a Halloween Party and I'm driving again. It's only Pizzas, alas, not a great job, but it's keeping a roof over my head while I look for something else.
Ironically, I just watched the new Dr. Who episode about the Daleks in the Depression. Hit home a bit.

Does anyone have any fun plans for Halloween? Mine involve handing out candy to the fewer than ten kids in my neighborhood (hey, that means more candy for me!).

I've just completed two days of "Fall Field Day" at our school. Been trailing 30 kids round hayrides, pumpkin rolls, pumpkin and spoon races etc... I even raced with our 3 year olds in the sack race (not a pretty sight!!). It was great fun, but I'm hoping that means I've done my bit for the weekend, I'm all kiddied out !
We were going to go to the Halloween party at our local book shop, but there's a ****** been haunting it lately, and the guy has already followed my daughter round the children's section once, so I think we'll be giving it a miss. Pity really, as she was looking forward to it, but I don't want to risk the guy even looking at her.... I might rip his head off (but I really want to aim a little lower)!!

That's scary ~ somebody should turn him in ~ who knows, he could be a sex offender in which case he'd need to be registered and would get busted for hanging out around children. Even if he isn't registered, still ~ somebody should bust him for stalking little children. evil

If the guy is following your daughter, you should report it anyway, because keeping your daughter out of the festivities won't make her any safer. If you feel this creepy fellow might, indeed, be a child molestor, you need to take action.
I will simply draw your attention to the famous case of Albert Fish. He WASN'T creepy, he was an old man everyone thought they could trust. The only way to make your children safe is to teach them. Albert Fish lured children from their own back yards, while their parents were nearby.
Just to let you know. If you have a problem with this person, deal with it right now. Isolating your daughter just makes her a more "precious thing," a more attractive target.
Good luck. Honestly. God grant you the courage you need.

That's really creepy, Catira. I hope your daughter gets to have fun elsewhere.

Anyone have any ideas about what to do with lots of leftover Halloween candy? We knew this wasn't quite the "family neighborhood" that our old one was (which is something we wanted to get away from!), but even though I did buy less candy we've got a LOT of it left. We went through barely three bags - used to go through 7-9 at the last place!

valkyrie_lisa That's really creepy, Catira. I hope your daughter gets to have fun elsewhere. Well, we ended up going to a church fair at one of my daughter's friend's, so at least she got enough candy to give her pimples to last until her hormones kick in wink . I reported the guy to the bookshop staff. They say they can't do anything about him until he actually does something, and, of course, that's the last thing they want to happen, so they resort to dogging him around the store whenever someone notices that he's in. I've now got myself a camera phone though, so if he's ever in again when we are, I can snap his photo and hand it in to the police. If he is known, then maybe just evidence that he's around kids will be enough to let them bring him in. More and more these days I find myself sounding like my Mum, shaking my head and wondering what the world is coming to! Hope everyone had a safe and happy halloween!

Oh my goodness, purplewiz! I've never used more than a bagful of candy. We had 8 trick-or-treaters this year, and 5 of them were in a van and not from our neighborhood. My suggestion would be to take the candy to work so your coworkers can enjoy it. Or ask your kids' teachers if they ever use candy as a reward.
Catira, I'm glad that your daughter still had some fun. It is a shame that we have to be so protective these days.

No kids, and the candy is at the office....since I work from home sad That's the problem smile Oh, well, I've got it in a cabinet we don't go into much, and hopefully we can just forget about it for the time being.
