Phantom Shifter I talked about this earlier from a logical standpoint. It’s logical to say if you’re a straight girl you’d be into guys. Apparently the opposite isn’t true though, which “does not compute” to me. I mean the opposite if you’re a girl who likes girls you’d like more girls. I don’t understand at all why lesbians would like yaoi. Logically speaking it makes no sense and there’s a lot of crap I could write about how the brain works and logically speaking why lesbians would like either. In the end it would be justified as a type of bisexuality, however that doesn’t seem to be getting us anywhere since lesbians in the group are denying that it has anything to do with sexuality. Which is a complete contradiction, because yaoi and yuri are sexual in nature. If you didn’t care then do you also watch hentai and straight couples? Just as a notice, I will use yaoi and shonen-ai interchangably throughout this post, because I'd rather not mention both of them all the time. Just assume me saying one means both, please.
Yes, that is true, if you're assuming that I read yaoi for a sexual purpose. First off - I don't. Perhaps I can answer this in a bit more of a personal manner. I'm a lesbian, and I've never been out to anyone outside my circle of closest friends. I've definitely been attacked for my [assumed] sexuality, and I've witnessed a lot of homophobia, which thankfully was more social ostracization and bullying than actual physical and full on harassment stuff. Still, it effects me, reading yaoi or shonen-ai - especially the stuff where homophobia isn't an issue - brings me a little closer to the story, sort of like watching movies that take place in your home town. It's familiar, and it makes me feel not quite so alone. On the other side, some yaoi also has a really good story. Why would I stop reading it simply because the romance is between two people I'm not attracted too? Hell, I find most heterosexual romance unattractive as well, but I'd never stop reading a series just because it had some straight romance in it. It simply makes no sense. Now, I understand your point about series that are very, very focused on romance - and to that I'd go right back to my first point, that I like reading about gay couples simply because I can relate. And I really do avoid porn, unless it has a really good story. In that case I just skip it.
But, really, my question here is why do I need to be bisexual to get enjoyment from yaoi? It's simply another kind of story, and while I may not get the same enjoyment from it since I'm not attracted to the parties, I can still enjoy it as a story. I don't know why people are so eager to point out that people like that just must be at least somewhat bisexual. No. I know what I am far better than anyone else.

Well said! *claps*
Quote: Heh, well some yaoi/shounen-ai is so girly that I wonder if the girls that read are lesbians. EXAMPLE: why would a supposedly straight girl like a boy who looks just like a girl, minus the boobs? I'm a bi guy who prefers men, and anytime I see a shounen-ai/yaoi boy dressed like a school-girl or just dressed really girly . . . I don't take interest in it. So why would a supposedly straight girl take interest in it?
Hey, I like pretty boys because... I'm attracted to them and not to big "manly" men. Got a problem? I've never liked bulky people with really manly man features you know? My entire family likes manly men, but I think that most of the pretty boys are GORGEOUS! (I substitute "hot" for "gorgeous" btw I think it sounds better..^^ wink It's not a matter of liking girls without boobs; it's just a preference.
