Ignore it
That's just dumb
Logically or illogicaly
It's just like wtf ?
people some times have no clue what they are talking about

If a well-groomed boy was wearing star hairpin things [what do you call them?] he'd be asked if he was gay and perhaps mocked as gay. Though how you groom yourself and dress shouldn't determine your sexuality.

Girls interested in something sexual is a subject that some societies don't know how to address and is abnormal and maybe viewed as a guy interest. So they're doing the same thing asking a girl if she's a lesbian for having interest in something sexual as asking a guy if he's gay, because of how he's dressed.

It's like saying, "Why aren't you being like everyone else? You're weird."

Cartoons encourage people to be themselves, real life encourages everyone to be carbon copies [If you fit in and blend in you don't get hurt]. I have a tattoo and it wasn't until after the fact that I came to a full realization of how tats are looked down upon. It's in an extremely obvious place too. It's not one of those small ones you put on your back or ankle. When I got it I was thinking 'art', now I have to be careful how I dress around relatives.

Kinda annoying really...Like at my school if a girl likes yaoi they're considered lesbian and if a guy likes yuri that means they're gay...I Like Yaoi more than Yuri but Same Sex Couples don't bother me so what does that make me? some people just misunderstand...

I talked about this earlier from a logical standpoint. It’s logical to say if you’re a straight girl you’d be into guys. Apparently the opposite isn’t true though, which “does not compute” to me. I mean the opposite if you’re a girl who likes girls you’d like more girls. I don’t understand at all why lesbians would like yaoi. Logically speaking it makes no sense and there’s a lot of crap I could write about how the brain works and logically speaking why lesbians would like either. In the end it would be justified as a type of bisexuality, however that doesn’t seem to be getting us anywhere since lesbians in the group are denying that it has anything to do with sexuality. Which is a complete contradiction, because yaoi and yuri are sexual in nature. If you didn’t care then do you also watch hentai and straight couples?

Just as a notice, I will use yaoi and shonen-ai interchangably throughout this post, because I'd rather not mention both of them all the time. Just assume me saying one means both, please.

Yes, that is true, if you're assuming that I read yaoi for a sexual purpose. First off - I don't. Perhaps I can answer this in a bit more of a personal manner. I'm a lesbian, and I've never been out to anyone outside my circle of closest friends. I've definitely been attacked for my [assumed] sexuality, and I've witnessed a lot of homophobia, which thankfully was more social ostracization and bullying than actual physical and full on harassment stuff. Still, it effects me, reading yaoi or shonen-ai - especially the stuff where homophobia isn't an issue - brings me a little closer to the story, sort of like watching movies that take place in your home town. It's familiar, and it makes me feel not quite so alone.
On the other side, some yaoi also has a really good story. Why would I stop reading it simply because the romance is between two people I'm not attracted too? Hell, I find most heterosexual romance unattractive as well, but I'd never stop reading a series just because it had some straight romance in it. It simply makes no sense. Now, I understand your point about series that are very, very focused on romance - and to that I'd go right back to my first point, that I like reading about gay couples simply because I can relate. And I really do avoid porn, unless it has a really good story. In that case I just skip it.

But, really, my question here is why do I need to be bisexual to get enjoyment from yaoi? It's simply another kind of story, and while I may not get the same enjoyment from it since I'm not attracted to the parties, I can still enjoy it as a story. I don't know why people are so eager to point out that people like that just must be at least somewhat bisexual. No. I know what I am far better than anyone else.

Meh, people are just stupid like that. They seem to be stuck on the ideas that women only like gushy het romance and women don't like porn.

Well said! *claps*

Quote:
Heh, well some yaoi/shounen-ai is so girly that I wonder if the girls that read are lesbians. EXAMPLE: why would a supposedly straight girl like a boy who looks just like a girl, minus the boobs?
I'm a bi guy who prefers men, and anytime I see a shounen-ai/yaoi boy dressed like a school-girl or just dressed really girly . . . I don't take interest in it. So why would a supposedly straight girl take interest in it?

Hey, I like pretty boys because... I'm attracted to them and not to big "manly" men. Got a problem? I've never liked bulky people with really manly man features you know? My entire family likes manly men, but I think that most of the pretty boys are GORGEOUS! (I substitute "hot" for "gorgeous" btw I think it sounds better..^^ wink It's not a matter of liking girls without boobs; it's just a preference.

UGH. I HATE that assumption! It's never made sense to me either! Like people have said before on here, why don't people assume that when guys watch two girls?
If you're a girl and watching two GUYS get with each other, where's the lesbian connection in that!? There isn't even a girl involved!
Some people are such idiots. At least people haven't automatically called me a pervert neutral . But it's still strange to be around them when they know about it. You're always wondering what they assume/think about you.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 25, 2006 6:32 pm
I've never been called a lesbian for liking Yaoi but... I do remember once when I was looking at a visual kei magazine a girl came up to me and asked "Are you sure you're not gay?" Ha ha, but I can see where she got that connection but... I do not understand where the whole lesbian thing comes in when someone is reading two guys together.

I hate double standards! lol

They're just being ignorant. The psyci of most people put straight girls don't like gay relations. Though it's also brings up that guys like gay women. Because women are 'more' against porn then men we're not suppose to like any of it. Now due to the fact that some girls watch gay porn, some people atomaticly think that they're gay, even if they are watching male on male porn.

I've looked at it that way too. That statement has it's pros and cons about it. Yes, someone may be considered "straighter" because they're so into two guys together, but some girls that like yaoi are also bi. Plus when people see that a girl likes yaoi they may think that they don't mind same sex couples as much since they're so into yaoi/BL/etc. So they may assume things or judge more readily that they (the girls that like yaoi) are more likely to like girls too.

@_@ sorry if any of that was confusing.

I got that all through middle school and so far in high school. But if any of them actually know me, they've heard me obsess over whatever GUY I have a crush on.
I'm straighter than a stripper pole, so why people insist otherwise, I know not.
*sigh*

But anyway, don't let it get to you
Some people are just stupider than others, hopefully this trait will be bred out soon.

I have no idea why. It's completely idiotic. Why would a lesbian girl like watching/reading something that contains almost no girls, just extremely attractive guys? Even though I do know a lesbian who likes yaoi a lot, I have no idea why people would think that. As most people said, a lesbian would be into yuri, right?

When miss sushii came to her new school, people asked me if I was a lesbian. I don't know why O.o

I think most people assume that if a girl is into 'pretty guys' then she obviously likes them because they resemble girls somewhat, so if you take that stand-point then people think "oh so your a lesbian {or bi}"
Or at least that how people I dealt with in the past have thought about me/told me. *shrug*

I had such a fight with a very closed-minded straight female (who WAS my friend) when we first met, after a bit of my convincing speeches, and showing her diff. pairings and artworks...I fully converted her onto shonen-ai....dunno if shes still into it after we had our huge fight and we fell out as friends...meh!
