My former voice teacher wouldn't let me clear my throat. It's apparently bad, but sometimes, there's just so much JUNK back there.
She also suggested peppermint tea when I have a cold, and it really works pretty well.

Tea is good for that as well but if not, medication might me needed just be careful with your vocal chords. You should be able to sing fine but don't over work them

I pefer a screaming vocals, but I have a wide range of vocals, but its hard to sing at different octives and play drums at the same time, which is what I do

Cool. I can't scream, it takes enough effort to belt. I had a fab retreat, and am now working hard on learning my choir songs, and the piano accompaniment to one of them. Interestingly, one of the verses is the same as in a similar song that my friend has recently found sheet music to! I love laying and dinging at the same time!
