Kaz stared at the feathers. For a minute, he wasn't sure what to do. Should he take them? Should he feel triumphant? Happy? But the only thing that he felt was empty and hollow. He refused to walk into the room, knowing that he would track blood and dirt inside as well. But, when Kaz looked up to see Uriel and Azrael, something suddenly hit him.
"He isn't dead, is he?" Kaz muttered quietly, his fingers slowly running across his heart. "I would've felt... at least part of it, right?" Kaz asked. But instead of waiting for an answer, the boy closed his eyes, before disappearing into a dead sprint. Adrenaline pumped throughout his body, masking the pain he felt in his foot. But the adrenaline lasted only for so long. He got as far as the edge of the woods before he had to stop and crawl the rest of the way. By the time he reached where he actually wanted to be, the sun was disappearing under the water's edge. What was he going to tell the old man now? That he had Edward killed for his own satisfaction?
"What the hell..." Kaz hissed, his fingernails latching onto his scalp and making deep indentations. Blood began to freely flow down his forehead, staining his shirt and pants crimson. But the boy didn't care. He didn't have a reason anymore. His mother was fine without him. He didn't have a father. The only person in the world that he could call his friend was dead now because of him. It would take a lot of thinking, but Kaz would sit there until he finally answered his questions. To end life, or to suffer through it...?

Uriel was quite surprised when Kaz deducted that Edward wasn’t dead but she didn’t let anything show on her face. She needed to know what the man would do. If he truly didn’t want to be here he could tell the old man that Edward was dead and be sent home, then they could all disappear. She watched as Kaz bolted into a dead sprint away from them, it was then Azrael turned to her. “What were you trying to do?!” she demanded.
“I only wanted to free us, its not fair of him to hurt brother like he is. If he goes home then the bond is still young it won’t be a devastating to either of them. At the rate brother is becoming attached though it won’t be long, what happens then Az. If Kaz decides that he doesn’t want anything to do with brother. Brother won’t survive another disappearance or a betrayal from him if he gets to attached.” Uriel protested. Azrael smacked her.
“It is not for you to decide, now return brother to him. Should he decide he wants nothing to do with Edward later then we will deal with the consequences when they come. But portraying that you killed him, Uriel it was completely foolish. Now go get brother and take him to Kaz.” Azrael ordered. Uriel grumbled and disappeared.
“Kaz!” Edward gasped appearing through Uriel’s portal. Seeing the man all bloodied had him turning to Uriel and telling her to fetch the twins. “What happened, who did this to you?” Edward questioned dropping down next to Kaz intent on healing the man then tearing apart whoever had dared done this.

"Edward?" Kaz whispered quietly, not bothering to look up at the angel. His fingers were dripping with blood, soft rivers of the crimson liquid trailing down his hands and arms. It stained his neck and his clothes. The blood from his foot covered everything else. "Heh... I must be in heaven," the boy whispered quietly, a soft smile touching his face as he let his hands drop to his side and his head rest on his knee.
"Nobody did this to me. I did it to myself. I'm dead now, right? We're both in heaven now, right?" The boy's eyes were rapidly shifting colors from a vibrant yellow to a deep lavender to the dark crimson red that he had never seen before. Truly, the boy did not believe that he was dead. Calculating everything in his mind, he knew that Uriel could not have killed Edward. He was her brother, after all. As strong as Uriel posed herself to be, there was only so much strength a girl had. Edward had done the woman nothing wrong. She couldn't have brought herself to harm him. Now, plucking out six feathers was a different story entirely, and very ingenious of her to do so.
When Kaz finally looked up to see Edward's face, his eyes settled on a dark crimson color. "Edward, I'm sorry I hurt you," Kaz muttered under his breath before closing his eyes and hugging his knees again. The pain had finally begun to sing through his body, coursing up his leg and down his back. If he were lucky, Kaz would last a about thirty minutes before he completely blacked out from pain and blood loss.

Edward was checking over Kaz the best he could without really touching the man, he wasn’t sure where the wounds were but he didn’t want to irritate them any further. He was also afraid that the man was still angry with him. “Your not in heaven why would you think that?!” Edward exclaimed taking the other’s hand that dropped to his side. “Look I’m here, I’m not dead so you aren’t either.” Edward tried to soothe as he waited for his sisters.
When Kaz said he had done the damage to himself Edward dropped the hand he was holding in surprise and confusion. He could see the others eye colour changing rapidly but he couldn’t comprehend it. “Why…why would you do this to yourself?!” Edward demanded. “Did I do something to upset you? Why?” Edward questioned confusion riddling him. It was then that Uriel reappeared with the twins who with a gasp were by Kaz’s side in a moment and Uriel was pulling Edward back so they could do their work. However that did not stop him from hearing Kaz apologize for hurting him.
“Foolish, to do this to yourself. Uriel this was cruel.” The twins protested to their sister as they begun to heal Kaz. They mended the scratches to his head first most worried about the blood there then they worked their healing down his body and healed everything else including his leg.

"Oh, you aren't dead..." Kaz muttered hoarsely under his breath as he sighed quietly. "Damn, and I thought that maybe we could have escaped the pain of living together." Truth be told, Kaz knew he wasn't dead. He had faced death in the face before, he knew what it felt like. This was nothing like being dead.
"You haven't done anything to upset me, don't worry... I chose to do this to myself. Mental instability... you know?" Kaz whispered quietly as he felt the twin's presence near him. He could feel the warmth of their healing powers, soothing his untamed soul and his ghastly wounds. When they were done, Kaz sat up straight and kissed both of them on the cheek. "Thank you. I'm sorry to have been such a burden," he smirked slightly. Yet, his eyes remained the deep crimson. And they would remain that way for quite some time.

“No why would I be?” Edward questioned still very confused. “Why would living together be painful, is it the bond is the bond causing you pain. If it is I’m sorry, I’m sorry alright.” Edward cried tears falling as Uriel held him back from the other. “Why would you choose to do that to yourself, you’re not crazy. You’re smart like Father.” Edward protested. When he saw Kaz his sisters on the cheek he looked away not wanting to see the affection he was giving to them.
“Your welcome but you shouldn’t do that to brother, if you don’t want him then you should let him know. Its not fair to let the bond grow then hurt him.” The twins protested.
“Wonderful if your quite done, perhaps he had something to say.” Uriel said looking to Kaz sternly

Kaz looked at Edward for a long time in silence. His eyes were wide with surprise, but his eyes still remained a deep crimson. Then a chuckle escaped his lips as he bent his head down. "No... you don't get it. Living is painful in its own wholeness. I thought we could have escaped the pain of living together, as in we both left the realm of the living together. I didn't mean to say that living together was a pain..." The boy, although he understood completely why Edward would think that, still found it incredibly humorous. It was... childishly cute in a way.
"Nobody said that I didn't want him," Kaz whispered quietly to the twins, a small smile on his lips. "Edward's pretty cool.... I wouldn't intentionally get rid of him," the boy said, running a hand through his chocolate brown hair.
He was thinking. What did Uriel want him to say? What was there to say? "Is there something special you want me to say, Uriel?"

Edward watched Kaz still confused as the other remained silent. When the other began to chuckle it caused the small dark feathered being to calm a bit. Even if the mirth the other was experiencing was not because of him Edward was glad to hear it. “Why would you want to escape life, no one knows whats beyond it and not all of life is painful. Father always said to get to the best part of life you have to fight through the pain first. That without the pain of some of life we do not fully enjoy the things that could be the greatest.” Edward said softly.
“But brother, he said you ran from him and you were upset.” The twins said a bit confused before looking to their brother. They were glad that Kaz would never intentionally rid them of their brother but hearing the other say that he just thought Edward was cool was not what they had expected. It was not what Father had said should become of the bond. Father however had never told Edward the full extent that his bond could expand to. Father had created Edward to be perfect for Kaz, so for the other to just think he was cool was unacceptable to the twins and they immediately wanted to meddle. “She wants you to explain to brother about what is going on with the army and how it came to be. So he knows what to expect in the future.” The twins informed when Uriel refused to say anything.

Kaz stopped laughing, his eyes suddenly shifting colors in realization. They were now a creamy white. "Unfortunately, my father wasn't around to tell me these things... he didn't tell me much of anything, really..." He had never heard anything about this barrier of pain that lead to a better part of life. Not even his mother had told him of it. If this concept is so universal, how come he had yet to see or hear it?
"Intensely upset..." Kaz mumbled quietly. "I fell right into the old man's trap... I should've seen that coming..." When the boy was finally able to regain his composure, he looked up at Edward and Uriel, his irises shifting between the two angels. "I'm a dog of the military, now. I do whatever the old man wants of me whenever he wants me. If any of you do something rash, I'm the one who hands out punishments..." Kaz looked at the collar that was still firmly placed around Edward's neck. He shook his head once to himself before giving a low sigh. "Basically... we're screwed..."

Edward couldn't keep up , he kept watching Kaz's eyes shift color but for the life of him he couldn't figure out what they meant. When the other said that his father hadn't been around to tell him the things he had been told guilt consumed him. He had taken Kaz's father from him. "I'm sorry." Edward apologized softly and Uriel rolled her eyes. Edward listened as Kaz continued explaining what had happened after he had been shot with the sedatives. "So we won't do anything rash." Edward declared. "Az doesn't let us really anyway. We'll just behave." Edward continued trying to soothe Kaz.
"And do what They want us to?" Uriel continued cutting Edward off with an irritated tone. "What of your interactions with our brother?" Uriel questioned.

(No problem)
"No need to be sorry... It's not like you did it on purpose," Kaz said indifferently. He didn't really care, anyway. Some kids had been born with multiple parents (a.k.a. foster children). He should be lucky he even had a mother... and that he had a father that existed. "Yes, that's right. Don't do anything rash, and we should all be fine." It sounded simple enough, but Kaz knew better than anybody that it would be difficult. After all, the Old Man was quite touchy...
"Do we have a choice, my dear Uriel?" Kaz asked, his eyes flashing a vicious obsidian. Then, all of a sudden, Kaz's irises turned a cheerful yellow. "You make it sound like I rape Edward at night or something... What do you want to know of our interactions?" The boy was clearly enjoying this new conversation with the cherubim.

Edward didn’t say anything when Kaz said there was no need to apologize however he still felt bad. He didn’t really know what it was like to be without a parent because Father had always been the only one he had. Edward nodded agreeing not to do anything that could place Kaz in a compromising position that he would have to punish them for.
“There is always a choice.” Uriel tsked. “You were running from brother the last time, are you still set to avoid him or are you done with your foolish games?” Uriel growled a bit irritated by the teasing and the amusement in the boy’s eyes. Edward still in her looked to Kaz a bit hopeful and a bit lost.

"Uriel," Kaz said quietly, his eyes darkening from yellow to black. "I never had a choice. I was born without a choice. I lost my father, and my mother cannot support herself. My uncle told me which school to attend. My aunty told me which classes to take. My mother forced me into my religion, which is Shinto-Buddhist if you must know. The only choice I ever had in my life to was to keep you alive. Be lucky I even considered the choice." Kaz was pretty much dead serious now. The childish tone in his voice had disappeared and was replaced with a harsh growl.
"I wasn't running from Edward. I was running away from my weaknesses, the only thing that the Old man can threaten to take away from me. If he took Edward, I wouldn't have a reason to stay here. I probably wouldn't have a reason to stay on Earth," Kaz whispered quietly, not bothering to return the girl's glance. Yeah, he wasn't really into the demanding type. He could barely stand to be around them.
