Kanda reached his room and sat on the bed. Was he going soft...? Was that why he treated the boy differently. It..just didn't make any sense to him on how he was feeling.

He sighed as he rolled on his side. 'He's back now..so it doesn't matter..' He said to himself before he fell into the hands of dreams.

Shan stayed peacefully on the bed, trying to fall asleep and ignore the strange feeling that there was another person in the room. He tensed when he felt a hand run itself through his hair, but it was most likely his imagination. There was no way there was another person in the room. He never heard any footsteps nor did he hear the door open.

He had no longer heard the little squeaking of the mouse, but it was probably because Nezushi had fallen asleep. It would be reasonable, too, since it would have taken him a lot of energy to have followed Shan all the way to his house.

Kanda woke up after a few hours and opened his eyes. He sat up as he ran a hand through his hair. "That...was good sleep." He stated to himself as he got up and walked out of the room.

He then went to Shan's room, going to asking the boy something. He knocked on the door as he yawned again. "Oi. Are you awake? I need to ask you something."

Shan, who had been trying to fall asleep for a few hours, tried to get up to answer the door, but a hand on his chest pushed him back. Surprised, he looked up at the owner of the arm, and there was a boy around his age with gray hair and dark eyes.

"Wh-who are you?" Shan asked the stranger, who seemed to just stay silent. For some reason the mysterious person scared him, even though he felt that he knew him.

Kanda waited as he drummed his fingers on his arm. When Shan didn't come after a minute, he frowned as he opened the door. "Oi Mid-" He said as he looked at him then blinked as he saw the stranger.

He stared at him for a second then growled when he felt the familar sense. "What the hell are you doing , you little rat?" He asked in irritation.

Shan became very nervous. The ominous atmosphere in the room seemed strongest around the silent stranger. He tried to move, but the stranger kept a firm hold on him. It wasn't long before the dark eyes focused on his own ruby-colored ones.

The sudden thought of Nezushi came to Shan and he wondered about the stranger's connection with the mouse. Come to think of it, why hasn't Nezushi started squeaking by now? Was he a heavy sleeper or something?

Kanda glared at the stranger with a death glare that made the say, 'If looks could kill.' A much to wanted reality. He then brought his attention back to Shan. He then shook his head and sighed in irritation. How in heavens name did he get himself into this?

"Get your hands off him, rat." Kanda said through gritted teeth and he went up to them and pried the starnger off Shan, then want back to his glaring. "Now do you know why I didn't want the mouse here?" He asked Shan in an irritated voice.

Shan nodded, somewhat glad that the stranger, who apparently was Nezushi, wasn't holding him down anymore. But what did he want? He wasn't speaking, so it would be impossible to know unless either Shan or the master knew how to speak 'mouse'. However, they didn't need to learn, for what happened next was unexpected.

"Can't blame me for trying to protect another innocent soul," a solemn and slightly deep voice said. It didn't take long for Shan to find out it came from Nezushi. The former mouse didn't move, but his glare at the master was intense and it gave Shan the creeps.

Kanda tched whne he heard the mouse. His day was going from bad to worse. "And holsing him down is a form of protection?" Kanda asked as he he ran a hand through his long black hair, which was out since he didn't put it up yet.

He then looked back at Nezushi's glare and glared back. He put Shan behind him as he said: "That doesn't sound like protection to me. Especially if the other is scared of its protector."

"It's obvious you can't be trusted. I was trying to keep him away from getting in trouble again, especially with your strict orders," Nezushi replied, running a hand through his grey hair. "And I believe protection doesn't regard whether or not someone is scared of their protector."

Shan wasn't sure what he should say, or whose side he should choose. He felt much safer with the master, and that was strange because he was afraid just a few hours ago. Who should he trust?

"Tch" Kanda said as he scowled at Nezushi. "I only have strict rules because that is how I was raised. To be strict. It will do no good if I spoil the people in this house." Kanda said. That has always been his family way. To be strict meant that the slaves could endure more and get stronger. At least that was how he was taught.

"And what the point of protecting them if they do not feel safe, rat." He said as he narrowed his eyes. "They should feel happy for being protected..not scared." He said as he wonderd where they heck he was getting this stuff. The way he was talking scared even him...cause..it sounded like he had feeling for Shan. Which was ridiculous. ! Wasn't it?..

"The point is the satisfaction of knowing whoever you're protecting is safe. Plus, with strict rules slaves begin to lose feeling and the will to live, and that is the worst outcome," Nezushi said with a strange glint in his dark eyes. "Anyway, you seem to be growing soft. Perhaps you're starting to like this particular soul? You wouldn't be the only one." His glare never came off his face, and he didn't show any sign of fear from the scowl.

Shan didn't like how Nezushi was behaving. The behavior reminded him very much like that of an aggressive rat, calm until it was time to strike. It made him wary of when Nezushi may decide to strike. What would he do then? What did he plan on doing?

"Please." He said in a calm aggravated tone. This mouse was really getting on his nerves. This is why he hated vermin that talked, especially ones who got a kick out of being annoying.

He said nothing to his comment of him growing soft as he looked at Shan. "Go make dinner." He said, looking at him instead of the annoying mouse. He wanted to talk to him though...alone.

Shan nodded and rushed from the room, very eager to leave. As he was heading to the kitchen, he was thrown glares from passing slaves, probably the same slaves he had to push away when he had been running from the master.

He didn't mean to push them. His mind had been in a panic due to his master's sudden action. It would have been scarring if he had lagged behind any longer. Shan would have apologized right then if he hadn't been in such a hurry.

Kanda watched as the boy let then broguht his attention back to Nezushi. "Alright. I'll say this once. Since you don't live in this house. Leave." He said to him, wanting the rat out of the house here and now. He was already annoyed and him staying here would just make it worst.
