.......Fifteen minutes had passed since Elaine had begun packing clothing and accessories for both her husband and herself. Philip had been standing at the opened front door, with bags in his hands as he eyed his wife angrily. None of his questions had been answered, plus she behaved as if their lives were in danger. Elaine paced back and forth before her spouse trying to figure out what may she be forgetting. She turned to Phil, her expression pained and her eyes averted from his, wrapped her arms around herself before speaking. "Most of the school has been evacuated, and i need you to leave with the last boarding."

......."Excuse me?!" Phil replied in an outrage, dropping the bags and luggage from his grasps. "Is that all you have for me to know? To just... leave with the last bundle of students? Elaine, i dont even know why we are evacuating! Now i ask you about it and instead of just explaining, you go about packing and-"

......."I dont have time to explain now," Elaine said,
worry and guilt both plainly present in her tone.

......."Then why this secrecy then? Who was that Martin guy? Why are you so rattled now? Tell me what's going on so that i know how to respond. I'm lost right now, i dont know what to do or where we are to go, but apparently you do, and instead of at least giving me a gist of why the school is empty, all you tell me is that the school has been evacuated and i need you to leave! Is that all you can come up with? Is this school all that matters to you?" He paused to allow his wife to speak, but she turned her back to him, almost in a shameful gesture, and remained silent. Phil's face contracted in rage. "WHY WONT YOU ANSWER ME!!?"

.......She rounded on him, striking his cheek with an open palm. "Because i love you!" She hissed at him. It wasn't then till Phil
saw how glossy her eyes appeared, filled with unshared tears of pain, and soon noticed how she shook with fear. "I told you i'll explain it later, but please, just go to the hanger-"

.......A teacher had nearly ran past the door before realizing that the dean of the school and her husband were standing there. The dark skinned man went to them. "Mr. and Mrs. Fulton, you only have two minutes to evacuate yourselves. All the students are gone except the last fourt or so who are being loaded onto the last rail."

......."Jason," Mrs. Fulten cried as the man started to
head down the hall and take a defensive post in the school. Jason only stopped because of how feeble and weak Elaine's voice had sounded, turning to see tears streaming down her face. "Jason... Please... Take Phil and leave... Dont stay.... Please..."

.......No matter how sincere he felt, Jason had to defy her wish. "Elaine, my obligation is to the safety of this school, though I know my efforts can prove feeble, i highly recommend that you leave." Without a backward glance, he was gone.

.......Phil turned to his wife just as she put a hand to
his chest and kissed him as deep and passionately as she could. "Go," she
commanded in a whisper, breaking their kiss. Phil just stared at her, his expression no longer angered, but he had granted her wish of leaving the grounds with the last of the students as long as she escorted him to the hanger. It was there in the hanger where the last few students were being loaded onto a small train on deck seven. She and her husband practically ran toward the train before the last eight students boarded. "Ember!" Elaine called out to the new student, spotting Lance on a stretcher next her. "You cant leave from hear-" Something in the way her head twitched slightly told Phil that she saw an unavoidable outcome, even as the tears fell harder from her face, he knew that getting on this particular train would lead to an ill fate.

.......The whistle sounded as the coach leaned out a window. "Mrs. Fulton, we cant wait any longer! We are departing now." The train began to move forward along the electrically charged tracks and began it's climb up the tunnel ramp. Elaine began to cry, sobbing into Phil's arms as the sounds of rapid gun fired began to erupt from around the school. She knew that more than ninety percent of her staff were currently throughout the school, attempting to fight U.S. Marine infantry units who now stormed the school from every possible angle. Outside, helicopters descended low enough to allow excavation from the choppers. Armed soldiers scaled down walls and chucked smoke bombs and tear gass into the school, all of them miss informed by no one other than Martin, the the building housed a Muslim Terrorist cult. Marines were being drowned by waves of water from the water charmers, burned by those who yield powers of pyros, and torn limb from limb by the tamed savages of so called mutant terrorists as her staff were gunned down, fraged, or blown to an oblivion.

.......The basement hanger shook as Philip began to pat his wife, telling her that it may be good for the for of them to leave now. She agreed of course, pulling her spouse in the direction of a side door nearly six departure decks away from them. Philip had to take Lance onto his shoulders and half walked/ran behind his wife and Ember when a loud crash, followed simultaneously by an explosion which shook all decks and made them all stumble. One of the route tunnels leading to a well hidden escape route, lit red before the tumbling sounds of burning steels crashed along the tracks. The last departing train was decimated, rolling like a giant ball of flame and crashing onto deck seven. Deck seven instantly caught a blaze and the heat of the destruction forced the three of them to stare in horror at the once filled vehicle. A loud tractor noise began to sound from the tunnel as a tank rolled down onto the burning deck.

.......Elaine felt a burning rise of hatred seep through her body as she stepped from her husband's reach and out stretch both her hands roaring with fury. Deck seven shot forward like a concrete coil, crushing the tank into the ceiling. Elaine hadn't cared that there were miss lead Marines aboard, she was hell bent on vengeance, but even as she turned, she almost hadn't caught sight of the tank appearing in deck four, where they now stood. She tried to deflect the fired round as best she could, with the tank's barrel erupting, sending a charge at the three targets standing closely together. Elaine managed to deflect the round by a little, though in turn sent the charge into a spare cart stationed on deck two. It erupted in a ball of flame and heat, sending them all flying backward from the blast.Luckily, non of them were blasted into shock as they all came to their feet. Philip loaded Lance onto his shoulders once more and ran to the door with Ember, reaching the door to realize his wife had not followed. He turned to her. "ELAINE!!! GET OVER HERE NOW!!!" though his wife ignored him. He watched in horror as the tank ease forward, its cannon aimed at her person, but then it ceased to move. She started to walked toward him when she heard a voice call her name.

......."Elaine! Why are you still here!? you must go now!!!" Once of her closest friends, Jenny, was on the observation balcony.

......."Jenn! You must leave too!" "And so must everyone else! This is a losing battle you cannot stay-!"

.......Elaine watched in horror as her friends body exploded as bullets tore through her, the body falling over the rail and slamming into the ground. Elaine couldn't hear her husband's shouting until he grabbed her, leaving Lance with Ember, and pulled his sobbing wife through the door leading to the garage of staff vehicle storage.

Ember was still in shock as they continued to run. Yelling or orders could be heard from upstairs. The whole time Mr. Fulton told them to keep going and to keep quiet. Lance was still draped over Mr. Fulton's shoulder. He stopped at a car and opened it up. "Get in." He told Ember and placed Lance beside her once he did. He had to lead Mrs. Fulton to the passenger side before driving off.

Mr. Fulton sped as he passed the school. Ember looked back and saw Martin outside and glaring at the car. His soldiers began to shoot. "Hold your fire!" He yelled at them. "We need them both alive!" Mr. Fulton turned on a road and Ember turned back around as the school disappeared in the distance.

Ember placed Lance's head on her lap as he looked asleep. He's going to be alright. She thought to herself. He's going to be alright. The whole car ride took half the night. Lance didn't once open his eyes and Mr. Fulton didn't dare stop anywhere. Ember wanted to know where they were going but decided against it. Mrs. Fulton finally turned around.

"We're going to a friend's house. We'll be safe there. He'll give us the shelter we need and yes, he knows about the school and about everyone's special gift. He knows Lance very well too." Ember didn't say anything but nodded. "He'll be alright, Elizabeth. I promise."

Ember looked at her principal. She had never noticed it before, but Mrs. Fulton sounded like her mother. The voice was similar and she hadn't been called Elizabeth for the longest time. She looked back down at Lance's sleeping face. Gently, she rubbed his head hoping that her touch was helping any pain he was in.

Ember woke up to Mrs. Fulton rubbing her. "We're here, dear." Ember looked down at her lab and noticed Lance was gone. Mr. Fulton was already carrying him into the house. The house seemed bigger than a mansion. "Come on. Let's get you in a bed." Mrs. Fulton carefully helped her in the house and laid her next to Lance.

When Mrs. Fulton closed the door, Ember got up and sat on the windowsill. For the moment, it was too hard for her to go to sleep. All she wanted to do was see Lance awake before she could really be at ease. The night went on slowly. Every now and then she would look up at the sky and then back to Lance's sleeping face.

A knock on the door suddenly made her jump. "Good morning." An older man said. Ember looked at him confused as he walked in and handed her a plate of food. "Have you been up all night?" Ember looked at him strangely.

"It's day time already?" She asked and he nodded. "I guess so then." The smell of the food made her mouth water but she put the plate aside. "Thank you."

"You don't have to eat it if you don't want to. But I want that food gone by lunch. We're not going to have another body in a bed." Ember nodded and looked out the window. "I'm Chris, by the way." Ember was about to say something but he put his hand up. "I know who you are. Elaine told me everything. It's nice to meet you Ember. I'm sorry we couldn't meet on better occasion."

"It's nice to meet you too." She told him. Chris looked at Lance's sleeping face and then back at her.

"I'll leave you two alone." He told her and walked out of the room. Ember hugged her knees and decided to force herself to eat. Her body was weak but she had to stay awake. She wanted to see Lance and to know that he was alright. One by one the days passed and Ember didn't once sleep but she continued to eat as she tried to keep her strength up. Ember now sat in a chair next to Lance's bed. She moved hair out of his face and waited patiently for him to open his eyes. Lance's breathing was still consistently slow and steady which mean, to her, he was still alive and he wasn't in pain.

.....She had done nothing but cry alone that morning after she forced her husband away with his brother. She didn't want to loose him as she had lost most of her friends a few nights ago. Elaine lay in bed curled into the sheets, sobbing silently into the pillows as everything flooded her mind once again, watching her friend die, seeing the rail car a burning ball of flame and metal knowing all the young lives aboard were killed. Now, she lay alone and frightened, feeling lost and useless from her husband's absence, confused and uncertain as of what task to perform, and had no idea how long she could deal with it.

.....Hearing the bedroom door come open, she twisted to see Chris step in, beaming at her with a pitiful and sorrow look. "Elaine?" the older man asked, his voice low in sincerity. "Do you need anything?"

.....Elaine sat up slowly, whipping tears from her eyes and sniffling as Chris came nearer. "No," she answered on a silent sob she tried to hide. "I dont need anything. Maybe towelettes."

.....Chris gave a mental sigh as he gazed at her with pity. The poor girl was pathetic, then again, she watched children and friends die. Chris knew Elaine, despite her ultimate failure, was trying to appear strong more to herself than anyone else. Chris knew what she wanted, her husband at her side, but Chris had to send him away for his own protection. "Niece?" Chris called to Elaine, but after receiving no response from her now turned back, he proceeded to speak. "Elaine, I cannot imagine what it is you are currently going through, but you need to know that what ever you do from this point on now effects your life as well as the kids in the next guest room." He paused long enough to allow her sobbing to gradually stop before continuing. "Now, based on what you've explained a few days ago, you have something that this Mathew person wants, yes? And you know what it is and where to find it... no? What is this thing that Mathew wants badly enough to kill a school of children-" He hadn't even finished the question before Elaine exploded into a sobbing fit. Chris realized that he used a bad choice of words after visibly seeing the room fluctuate slightly. It all seemed of balanced to him, knowing that Elaine had difficulty containing her mental telepathy while emotionally disturbed. He hadn't left, but sat beside her and touched a hand to her shoulder. Everything began to normalize then, slowly the fluctuations began to stoop.

.....After a moment, Elaine turned to him as she whipped tears from her eyes. "May i have a warm cup of tea?" she asked and a very weak tone.

.....Chris could see she already couldn't handle what ever task she may have to perform, he could tell this becuase Elaine had always been a hot tempered, unfathomable person, though now she looked much more pathetic than she sounded. He standing, he gave her a nod and stepped out the room after giving her a soft pat on her shoulder.

.....Elaine let a few moments go by before she stood, exiting the room and strolling slowly down the hall. She stopped before the guest room which her last two students occupied. Grabbing the handle, she gently pulled the door ajar as to avoid being heard, peering in at the two. She observed Lance, noticing that he still hadn't come to consciousness. She knew it may be a few days till he'll awaken. Her eyes caught sight of Ember, who had been sitting on the window ciell, starring out across the grounds. Elaine's heart sank then, nd pain returned to her as tears began to fall once more. Ember wore a worried expression and Elaine didn't need to use telepathy to figure out who the worry was for. Closing the door and backing away, Mrs. Fultan began to stagger weakly down the hall, falling to her knees after absent-mindedly steeping into the bathroom, then had broken into a hard cry. She didn't want to have to do it again... the very task which ended the life of her daughter. She couldn't bare it a second time after the horror she had witnessed before her eyes two years ago. She; at that very moment, was doing the exact same thing she had then... trying to cry out the pain.

Hours passed Ember so quickly that after awhile she lost how many times it had turned into days. Everything outside of the window seemed cheerful and sunny but on the inside of the house it was quite the opposite. The dark feel to the room slowly drained Ember of everything. If Matt barged in at the moment Ember wouldn't have noticed nor would she have cared.

Ember had cried so much, she couldn't cry anymore. Her eyes were puffy and her hair was messed up from grabbing it so much. Several times Chris, and sometimes Mr. Fulton, would have to come in and make her eat. Without them, her physical energy would have been drained completely along with her emotional drain. Several times as she looked out the window her mind would wander to when this whole thing was over. Her and Lance would go on date, kiss, hold hands after she had control.

More than anything, she wanted him to hold her again but there would be no doubt in her burning him. And that was something he didn't need. The slow rise and fall of his chest was really the only thing that kept her going. For as long as his heart remained beating, so would hers.

As done so many times before, a knock came to the door but Ember hardly noticed. It had been days since the last time she had said anything. Now all her conversations would end up in head nods and shakes. Her throat was dry and useless but she didn't care to drink water or clear it for that matter. Chris walked with a comforting smile on his face. His smile never brightened her day. There was only one that would do the trick.

"I've been talking with Phil" Ember looked at him curiously. "Mr. Fulton...and we both agree that you have to get out of this room." She began to shake her head furiously but Chris stopped her. "It's alright. You're not going far. What we mean is to just go outside. Get some fresh air. You need it. Maybe you could even practice your gift. At least while you wait. Don't worry. Phil and I will watch him. If he wakes we'll let you know." Ember looked back out the window but this time she wondered if she should really go outside. Everything looked happy and bright but it wouldn't mean much to her without Lance.

Ember pressed her hand against the glass and felt the warm sun beating against it. Chills ran over her spine since the cold air in the room was doing nothing for her. The trees gently moved with the wind as if dancing. The memory of her first time with Lance came to her mind. Compared to now, things had changed dramatically in the course of just a few days. And now he was unconscious in a bed and she was just waiting for him to wake.

"Come on." Chris said. "It will be good for you." Ember was about to shake her head but Chris took her chin so that she could look at him straight in the eye. "You've been cooped up in here for too long. You need the fresh air and, from what I hear, you still need the practice with your gift. Go," He told her again. "It will be good for you." Ember's gaze turned back to the window. The outside world seemed disconnected from her. Almost like it was a dream that she couldn't really feel.

Ember stood up as she realized that he was right. He needed to get out of the room and she needed to practice. That is if she could even remember how to use her gift. She tried to walk but soon fell down. As carefully as he could, Chris helped her ease her way out of the room. The only time Ember had gotten up to walk was to the bathroom and even then it wasn't a lot.

Her legs jiggled from under her as she tried to walk towards the door. Every step seemed harder and yet easier than the last. It took awhile but eventually she made it to the door and then a little later after that she had made it to the door that led outside. The sun beamed through the window. The glare of the sun's rays seemed to hurt her eyes as Chris forced her out. The wind was warm as he blew gently against her skin. The last time her skin had seen the sun was the moment before she walked in the house with Lance's unconscious body.

A chirping sound came from the trees. It took a moment for Ember to remember that it was the sound of birds. Chris carefully placed her on a bench outside and walked back in the house to check on Elaine. For a moment, Ember sat there taking in everything. It all looked happy and yet there was nothing really happy about it. Everything seemed so pointless that it made her angry. So angry in fact that she wanted to burn in all to the ground. Then a tingling sensation came to her hands. But this tingling was different. It was like nothing she had ever felt before. This time the feeling seemed more intense than the other times. Either that or she had forgotten how intense the feelings really had been. It was hard to tell.

Ember carefully stood up and looked around the back yard for something to burn. At first she thought about burning trees but the fire would spread until he was controlled or had killed everything in it's path.

The sensation was growing more and more as she continued to look around. Everything seemed flammable and dangerous. The only thing she really could burn was herself. Ember slowly stepped over to a controlled area and closed her eyes. Not the feeling her hands had spread to her arms and was soon moving to her shoulders until moving throughout her body. It was then that Ember gave into the tingling. A new warm feeling covered her body and soon Ember was forgetting about Matt. The only thing she was really thinking about was the fire and Lance bringing it to life.

......."э*@ж^#$... Ҹ$%Ҝẫ#&$@^|... ﻸΌ%£Ąç..."

.......It was whispered to him, the sound of an almost non existing voice carried to him from the darkness, reverberating all around him, engulfing him in a language he could not understand. He tried to look about, but the eerie darkness is all he could see, spreading in all directions from what he could make out. With his heart now racing and panic creeping up his spine, Lance eagerly attempted to move, but no limbs responded; he tried to speak, but no words came. He began to panic as he began to feel something, a thing like object…. No…. creature wrapping its self around him, engulfing his body in an array of stabbing sensations as the creatures began to penetrate his skin, tearing at his muscles, and –

.......The light from the outdoors nearly blinded him when his eyes opened abruptly. Groaning, he turned his head slightly to avoid the light, but found difficulty in the action. Everything felt sore, his arms, legs, toes, even his eyebrows felt too stressed and pained to move. Lance groaned again, more out of frustration this time than anything else, and forced himself to sit up, batting tears from his eyes as the light continued to sting them.

.......Lance really wasn’t sure where he was, didn’t know why he ached everywhere, and hadn’t noticed the splitting headache until it almost knocked him back. He fell back down on the pillows and remained that way for a long while, letting the minutes turn to a half hour before he attempted to move and stand. Staggering to the door, he began to notice certain things about this place he awoken in; noting that this room was not a fernery, nor that the hall even remotely looked like medical hall should, and concluded this place to be someone’s home. Strangely enough… it seemed somehow familiar.

.......“Lance?!”

.......A voice came from his right, scaring the hell out of him. A tall woman stood practically beside him, her face and skin oddly pale. “Where am I?” He demanded, starring into Elaine’s eyes.

.......“You’re in my uncle’s guess room.... His estate...." Elaine sat beside him, her eyes never leaving his face, searching in worry for any indication that may lead to a similar incident which she barely survived the first time. She stared into his eyes as Lance glared back into hers, wondering if she should slip into his mind once more. "How do you feel?" She asked as she leaned from him, deciding against it.

.......Lance just stared at her. "So this isn't a hospital?"

......."No." She answered, her voice still slightly shaken.

......."Why not?"

......."We didn't see it as neccessary."

......."Why not? And why am i hear?"

.......Giving some thought to his question and feeling caught off guard, she suppose he probably wouldn't have known what had occured over the last few hours. Her gaze dropped to her lap as tears sweld into her eyes once more, wondering if-

......."Nurse, i feel just fine, can i go now? Is anyone here to pick me up or did i arrive here alone?" Lance lied as he finally realized move his arm, but the attempt once again, shot pain throughout his body.

.......Elaine must have given him the most bafled expression becuase Lance leaned from her in cautious retreat insinuating what? "Nurse?... Do you not know what happend yesterday evening?" She asked him this feeling her hope dieing out.

"You dont work here do you?" Lance asked, his tone ghinting worry, his expression showing that he was at theat moment, debating on a plan of action. Even if she were to attack him, or harm him in some way, moving on his part would probably drive his body into shock from the pain it would cause.

"You dont know me?"

"Lady, i've never seen you in my life"
