Angela held up a hand and showed the ring that was on her finger. "We got married four months ago and I've been pregnant for about three." She smiled and rubbed her tummy. Eva was not impressed. A million things ran through her mind. Anger. Pain. Disgust. Heart ache.
"Funny." Eva said sarcastically. "I moved here about three months ago." She looked back at Angela who was still smiling.
"I have the papers to prove it. Would you like to see them?" She asked as she pointed to her car. Eva shook her head and took the ring off her finger.
"No need. I've seen all I need to see." Eva shoved the ring in his shirt pocket and hopped in the car. She quickly drove home and locked the door. Finally, her knees gave and the tears began to flow. Why did she not head the warning in her mind? She knew something like this would happen. She just wished it didn't.

Alex watched as Eva drove away. Tears started to run down his face as he turned to Angela with hate in his eyes. "Yeah, we did it once. But I know I used protection." His voice was starting to rise. "And I never married you! I broke up with you! Why are you doing this..." He stared at her as he fell to his knees, looking at the ring.

"Because we did get married. I wasn't lying when I said I had the papers. And apparently your protection didn't work." She looked at her stomach and then back at him. "Obviously. And I'm doing this because I love you and I want our child to know his father."

Tears were running down her cheeks as she dialed the phone. "Mom?" She said once she heard someone pick up. "Can you come over? I need to talk to you." Without wondering why, her mother agreed and showed up moments later. Eva told her everything that happened as her mother held her on the couch.
"Well crying is the best way to let all out. So you just cry, honey. That boy hurt you and the sooner you're over him the better it will be for your health." Eva cried more and hugged her mother tighter. "I know it hurts." Eva could hear her heart finally shattering into a million pieces. "It will heal in time."
"That's just it, mom. I don't know if it will this time." Eva said as her mother wiped her tears again. Riley sat at the window and watched in the distance for anything.

Alex shook his head. "No! No... no... nononono." He sobbed and glared up at her. "If I am your husband than why I don't I remember anything, why I don't have a ring!" He yelled. "That was my fiance! She was going to be my wife, not you!"

"Oh sweetie, you can do anything online these days. Including a wedding. I tried to call you and tell you but you never returned my calls so I came to surprise you. And I know you don't mean that about her. She was just taking care of my honey-bunch while I was gone. It's hard to travel when you're pregnant." She giggled. Several of the shop worker walked outside and stared at the two of them. Each one knew who she was but was curious at the new lump in her abdomen. "Hello boys." She waved at them. "I'm Alex's wife."

Eva's mother stroked her head and tried to shush her. Eva's hand felt so light weight and incomplete but she had to get over it. "Everything will work out for the better. Trust me I know. This happened to me and after it did I met your father. Literally, right after." She chuckled and Eva looked up at her.
"I thought you told me that you met dad at the grocery store." Her mother shook her head.
"I said outside the grocery store. I was about to by some tequila but he changed my mind." She rested her head on her mother's shoulder and wiped her tears.
"Tequila sounds good right about now." Eva said.
"Oh no you don't. You're still too young for alcohol. You're never to drink the stuff. Even when you do become of age." Her mother warned and Eva smiled at her mother.
"Yes, ma'am." Her mother kissed her head and continued to stroke her hair.

Alex was still fuming. He got up and grabbed Angela's wrist and dragged her over to the car. "One, I'm not stupid enough to do a wedding online. Two, I want to see those damned papers. Three, were going to the doctors and I will prove that those are not my children. And four, I'm not your honey-bunch and I meant everything I said before. I love Eva."

"Oh, so your little slut has a name. Interesting name thought. Eva." She repeated the name to herself but them shrugged. "Now honey. You wouldn't want to look like an abusive husband in front of your friends. But I'll show you the papers." She opened her car and handed him a folder. "You can keep them. They're your copies." She smiled and rubbed her tummy. "And we can go to the doctor to get the tests results. But this babies are yours Alex. Whether you want them or not. And I know you want them." She stroked his cheek and giggled.

The phone rang and Eva jumped. Her mother answered it. "It's your brothers." She told her daughter and Eva sighed in relief. She didn't want to talk to Alex. At work it would be possible to ignore him. It was very simple and easy. She had it figured out on the drive home. "No, she's fine. He didn't hit her. I'll tell you everything when I get home." Her mother covered the end of the phone and looked at Eva. "Do you want to talk to your brothers?" Her mother asked and Eva shook her head. Just hearing the anger in their voices would make everything worse and the tears begin to flow again. Eva had just calmed down.
She walked into the kitchen and began to make some soothing tea to relax her nerves. If anything could help her to stop thinking about Alex, it was her mother's tea. Linda seemed to read her mind and began to mix the ingredients for her home made tea.

"You whore! Eva is no slut. And she's a hell of a better woman than you'll ever be. And you're right for once, I want children, but not yours." He took a breath and calmed down and looked at the papers. They had his name on them... but it wasn't his signature. "Who signed this?" He asked her quietly.

"You did. You just don't remember because you were drunk at the time. But I assure you we are married." She said ignoring what Alex had called her. "I even took a picture of us signing it. It's in the folder as well if you don't believe me."

Eva sat at the table and sipped her tea slowly. Each sip drew her closer to forgetting about Alex. But every time she looked at Riley, she was reminded of how they even got together in the first place. Her mother answered her cell phone and then sighed once she hung up. "I have to go, honey. Will you be ok if I leave?" Her mother asked. Eva nodded and said goodbye to her mother. Eva wanted to be alone for the moment. If she was going to face him at work tomorrow, she would have to get him completely out her head. Riley looked up at her from the floor.
"Don't give me that look. It wasn't meant to be. Plus, he's already married and with children on the way." More tears ran down her cheeks as she took more sips of the soothing tea.

He looked at the picture and sighed. "Fine. You have me their. Can we just go to the doctors now?" He said keeping his eyes off her.

The got in her car and drove to the doctors and took blood from the two of them. "The result will be ready in a few weeks." He said as he looked at the two of them.

"You're making this harder for me to move on, Riley." Eva told her cat. "Don't make me shove you outside. Ghost or not, I can still hit you with a broom." Riley walked out of the room and sat on the windowsill again, watching for things in the distance. "He's not coming back." She shouted to her cat. "He's happy with his wife and unborn child." Eva said the last part to herself and continued to sip her tea. A knock came from the door and Eva jumped. This time she had to answer it.
"Hey chicka. Open up!" Jessica, her best friend, said as she knocked on the door. Eva opened the door and smiled at her life long friend. "Oo, looks like I can in the nick of time. Tell me everything." Jessica said as the two of them walked in.

They walked out of the office and Angela headed to her car with a sigh. "If you can get the divorce papers, I'll sign them. Maybe." She got in the car and rolled down the window. "Hop in. I'm your only ride home anyway."

"That jerk." Jessica said after Eva explained everything. She placed both of the cups in the sink and sat back down at the table. "Tell you what. Next weekend we'll go clubbing and we will have a grand ol' time. Sound good?"
"Yeah, Jazzy. It does." Eva lied. What she wanted was Alex but there was nothing she could do.

"Take me to the town hall please." He said and got into the car. He spoke simply, keeping his eyes off of her.

Angela shrugged and did so. She parked in the parking lot and decided to go in with him.

Eva held her head in her hands. "Eva babe, talk to me." Jessica said.
"I just can't believe he would do this to me. I loved him and now I don't know. This may take longer than Mike." With Mike, it had only been a few days until she was finally over him. But with Alex, Eva thought it might take longer since she truly did love him.
