I'm not doing the real thing. It's not the walking, it's not the camping, it's the way I was cheated into taking almost everything: inner and outer tent, trangia and meths. And the way my supposed best friend is bitching about me and generally acting like a cow. She's in my group, there's only 8 of us all together, people aren't going to appreciate me insiting on a change....so I'll quit.

I looked at the "new" award scheme on Wiki. I don't like it. There's a certain… quaintness to how Scouts were [note, it's not like we didn't allow girls; we had one or two, never really got the critical mass to get them to stay for a lengthy time].

I looked at the "new" award scheme on Wiki. I don't like it. There's a certain… quaintness to how Scouts were [note, it's not like we didn't allow girls; we had one or two, never really got the critical mass to get them to stay for a lengthy time].

I'm not a fan either. Pathfinder and such were cool, and they looked the business too. Also, I hate the way it goes bronze-silver-gold...then, apparently stuck for terms, goes to platinum and diamond. Which is, to my mind, the equivalent adding "mega" and "uber" to something like an OBE. Superfluous and quite incongruous.

But oh well.

I'm only in it for the expeditions now, it makes insurance simpler. And to finish my Queen's Scout award, at some point.

I remember back in the day when I used to hold myself to strict posting standards. If I spelt something incorrectly or made a typo I'd go back and correct it, I'd never use caps to emphasise something -- always italicise -- and I'd never have a quote vortex with more than two quotes in it (one if I could get away with it contextually).

Now, not so much. I've got to be the only person on the internet who puts less effort in now than when they started.
