Why oh why do signs of affection from a cat=pain for a person.

because cats think they are superior

So that automatically means they will be sadistic in most displays of affection?

no, they think that we won't care. and for the most part we don't , becauase cats are great., and they don't actually hurt us either, those displays are more annoyances than real pain.
